Can anyone suggest why my GivEnergy system ( dongle ) is repeatedly losing connection to my home Wi-Fi ? For reasons unknown to me, the disconnection occurs invariably at 2:30 am. Also, it is every day or so, maybe about 50 % of the time. It can be fine for a couple of days then will disconnect ( at 2:30 am ) for the following few days ...
There does not appear to be any rational explanation of when it will happen. Only the timing ( 2:30 am ) is certain.
I am not aware of any programmed "shut-down" of my home Wi-Fi network that would cause the GivEnergy system to disconnect at all, let alone in the way I have described.
The duration of the disconnection varies ; sometimes it will reconnect by itself ( after an hour or so ) and other times I will need to "reboot" the Wi-Fi network ( because I give up waiting for the GivEnergy system to reconnect by itself ). Once the Wi-Fi is rebooted, the GivEnergy system normally comes on line pretty well straight away.
Apologies for the ramble. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

IANJUDD some routers do go into a low-power mode overnight. Perhaps run a WiFi channel scanner app or something night, to see if anything interesting happens at that time. Though there is a danger that having an active device may perturb the system you trying to monitor.
If its 0230 then my money is on it being a Sky connection and more specifically SkyQ.

It may also be that some ISPs renew your real world IP address every 24 hours (this may be adjustable in your router settings) and for a brief period the network isn't available.
It might be worth checking what your DHCP lease time is, and if possible either extending that or (better) setting the inverter to a fixed IP address in the router so that it doesn’t have to get a new address every day
We had a similar situation with our all in one battery last year (2023) kept losing connection at 1.55am, not every single night but pretty regularly with no obvious trigger and then it failed altogether. The battery itself was working but no data provided from it due to the loss of WiFi connection which was very frustrating. Our engineer tried a number of fixes, firmware upgrades etc but we eventually had the battery swapped out under warranty as the internal dongle would appear to have been defective.
I rarely get a Home connection in the App and connect using the Away function. Presumably the Dongle has to connect via WiFi to enable me to get a 4G connect when I am away from home.
Why does the Home function not work?
It would probably be better to have started a new thread since this problem doesn't appear to be related to the original problem, but since you're here - what IP address does your inverter have on your network and is it on the same subnet as your phone? You have have any guest or IOT networks set up? Is the phone on the same network as the inverter?
Have you tried reserving the inverter a specific local IP address in your router and then setting this under Local Monitoring settings in the GivEnergy app?
For the latter press the "hamburger" menu in the top left of the app, press Settings and then Local Monitoring. Press the plus button next to IP Addresses and then enter the same address you reserved in your router.

How did I find the Inverter IP address?
I haven't a clue about the phone subnet though the Android otherwise has no issues.
IOT? I understand IOG and IOF but IOT?
I guess the inverter may well not be on my home network. How do I find that?
Only after these can I consider a local IP address etc.
Some routers from the latest two or three years have separate IOT or Internet Of Things networks to keep the large number of internet connected devices that we all have in our homes now separate from your personal data. The idea that these devices, which are often only supported by the manufacturer for a brief period after being released, cannot see any other device on the network and can only connect to the internet. If the device gets hacked or has a security vulnerability, at least it's kept away from your important devices. This sort of feature would have protected the casinos whose point of sales systems got hacked because of a fish tank with a security vulnerability (this really happened).
Similarly guest networks, they segregate guest traffic (theoretically from your friends and family) from your main devices - so again there is limited security exposure when people from outside your household are visiting.
If your router has either an IOT or guest segregated network and the inverter is connected to it then the phone will not be able to talk to it.
Given you report you can very rarely connect in Home mode it is more likely that your router is constantly re-allocating the IP addresses for your devices and for whatever reason the app is struggling to find it again.
Most home networks have anything up to 254 internal addresses which devices can claim, and allocate these using something called DHCP. It's not important that you understand what this stands for, but for completeness it is Dynamic Host Client Protocol. Essentially it's like a locker at a school or pigeonholes in a halls of residence. Any data arriving at your router will be sent to the individual address associated with the device.
Instead of keeping the same address permanently though, devices lease them - usually for a period of 24 hours. Instead of keeping the same locker assigned locker as would normally be the case within a school year, you get a new one each time - like the gym where you use a different locker each visit. Maybe you are a creature of habit and tend to take lockers in the same area every time you go, but because they are first come first served you can never be sure exactly which one you are going to get. The address may be the same or very similar day to day, but it's not guaranteed to be identical.
If you log on to your router's app or control panel then most have functionality to show you all of the devices connected at that time, and almost always have a feature where you can allocate one of the addresses permanently to a specific device. This isn't the same as a static IP address, the device will still ask the router for a new address each time the lease expires - it just means that the router will always give it the same one, and won't allocate it to any other devices.
Unfortunately the exact procedure for doing this will vary from router to router so I cannot give you generic instructions. If you search for your router make and model and "reserved address" then that will probably get you started.
Once you have successfully allocated an address to the inverter using your router, you can set that in the app as I described above. Keep in mind that it may take up to 24 hours for the current lease to expire and for the inverter to ask for an address again. One simple way around this would be to reboot the inverter, the router or both.
Another thing that you can probably do easily without having to figure out your router and network is recall if you told your installer network details for your wifi, or if they hard wired it to your router using a network cable. In the latter case it is very unlikely to be network segregation unless you have an advanced router that uses VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) to separate traffic, and is more likely to just be changing IP addresses.
If figuring out how your router works is too much, you could try the "Scan for your inverter" button under the same local monitoring settings menu as I described earlier. This may only be a temporary fix though as your router may re-allocate the address again the next day.
