Charge rate drops by half when adding 2nd Gen 1 Battery

Hi,

I have a system with a Gen 1 5.2kWh battery and GIV-HY3.6 inverter.
I recently added a second abttery (same Gen 1 5.2 kWh). However after installation the total charge/discarge rate is still the same at 2600W but now split across the 2 batteries, meaning each battery charges/discharges at a snail pace of 1300W (rather than 2600w).
My inverter recognises the new battery (showing total capcity of 10.4kWh (2 packs)) but in the settings I cannot put anything more than 2600w.
Batteries have been wired so that their charge levels are the same (or very close) all the time.

I've already gone back to my installer but has anyone got any idea?

guillaumez that's how it works. The inverter sees the two batteries as in effect 1 giant battery of the increased capacity.

The 2600W charging and discharging limit is on the inverter, no matter how many batteries you add you get the same inverter throughput

If you are filling a bucket with a garden hose, then adding a second bucket doesn't make the garden hose flow any more water. All you have done is double your water storage capacity...you haven't halved the amount of water that the hose can pass.

I think it depends on the inverter. My Gen3 says it can do Max. Charge / Discharge Power 3300W / 3600W but I only have one battery with a 2600W limit. I would expect if a second one was fitted the full 3300 would split between them. Perhaps it needs an installer only setting to be changed.

nophead I dont think thats the case. Its only the newer 8.2 and 9.5 batteries that can do the higher throughput rates and as the batteries are chained together one after the other you’d be limited by the slowest component in the chain.

The installation manual isn’t clear either way

They would have to be wired wired in parallel on my Gen3 because it only supports 45 to 58V, so the batteries should have twice the current rating as long as the wiring was up to it.
