Keeping clocks on GMT (not going to BST)

Hi all,

I think it is time to consider if we should leave the clocks on GMT in the UK and not changing to BST. I donโ€™t really know the reasons why we keep doing this now, help farmers, children going to school in daylight etc etc. Not sure these things are relevant any more. So looking forward to the future:

  1. Has anyone done their calculations if they stuck to GMT all year with regards to Solar generation & battery?
  2. My thinking is I can discharge to Grid from 4-7, then still get some sun to charge battery, but loose an hour on BST.
  3. I started to do this last year (1st year of Solar) discharging 6-7 and then realised I should really be doing it from 4-5.

I am happy to start a government partition to get the government to look at this in Parliament and we can then see if we can get 100k votes?

BST gives you more days when it is light between 1600 & 1900.
I don't need the hour of daylight starting at 0400 and the hour of darkness starting at 2030 that being on GMT would bring.
I haven't calculated but I'm fairly sure I would be better off on BST, even better with BDST.
I'm quite happy with the way things are though.

If sun rise is at 04:00 and sets at 21:00 BST, does that not mean 5:00 and 22:00 GMT?

My vote for double summer time and leave it there permanently all year

Daveb01 I'm afraid you have it the wrong way round. The clocks go forward in the spring and back in the autumn.
Sunrise on the 30th March is at 05:51 GMT, where as sunrise on on the 31st March is at 06:49 BST (ie 0549 GMT). Actual timing depending upon where you are of course.

Changing or not changing the clocks will not alter the amount or duration of sunlight hitting solar panels.

Ok I understand that.

I have an AIO so in summer I normally export for 2 hrs (or the battery will not last til morning when the sun comes up)

What I was trying to do was export between 4-6pm, and recharge the battery for as long as possible while there is sun after 6pm.

If we stick with GMT it would be about 8pm
If we went with BST it would be about 9pm (so this one is better)

Oh well, I thought I would ask, thank you all guys we can put this to bed now, go have a beer ๐Ÿบ๐Ÿบ
