ok so i have asked this before and got some answers ,and set of on a journey of descovery and im back at square 1.
so the system is set on eco through the web portal , the battery is charged from the solar array and also the grid ( at full costs ) but the system doesnt use the battery for the house and holds it but and then discharges to the grid later during dark hours ( at a much reduce rate ) ....... WHY

the hole idea of having the system was to get cheap energy but no matter how i set my settings up im (it) using the grid to charge the battery at the high rate and then discharging it back to the grid at a reduced rate. i dont want to send anything from the battery to the grid . how do i stop it form doing so .... please help

cheers

You didn't say what equipment you have, if you have any discharge settings done via settings in the portal turn them off.

sorry , its a gen 1 inverter and 9.5 kv battery , i have a timed charge and set to eco . everything else is off .
i think im either missing it or im thick. the solar can charge the battery unless the array is covered with snow but ther emust be a setting , whay would you want to charge from the grid at 28 pkh just to send it back later at 15 pkw ,

sorry im just struggling to understand the philosophy

BlairS Hi - so it would be worth understanding what tariff you are on (and with which provider), which timed period you have set for importing from the grid to the battery, and when you have set it to discharge at all (and whether you have registered for SEG or not).

That's important info you've missed out, which is needed in advising you.

Sounds like a stuck/weird config.
Have you tried resetting the settings, restarting it and then setting it back to what you need?

Also are there meters/CT clamps for the main load/solar and are the connected correctly to the respective wires(right way around etc)?

BlairS ...... WHY

There's a few things that could prevent the battery from powering the house even in eco mode. There could be a battery reserve configured too high. The battery could be paused. Since your system appears to be charging from the grid at unexpected times, it's possible that the charging window is much longer than required - the system will hold charge, rather than discharging, while inside the charging period once the target has been reached.

Perhaps post a screenshot of the 'remote control' page on the web portal (from the inverter page, press the gears icon in the top right). This gives a low-level view of all the parameters that control your system, and someone may spot an oddity.

Or, as suggested, reset all parameters to default (on the 'settings' section of the inverter on the portal).

ok

tariff , octopus flexible inwards and 12m fixed export
set on eco with time charge at to 45% from 12.30 to 05.30
no discharge or export time set

so all i want is to stop the battery exporting power, not worried about exporting power direct from the array during the day as the house has low demand.

hope that makes sense

You are on Octopus flexible inwards, isn’t that the standard variable rate, 27-30p/kWh? Same rate day and night?

If so, not sure why you are doing an overnight charge at all, you’re losing 10-20% in battery and conversion losses.
Just leave it on Eco mode, the battery will fill from solar, discharge to the house, if you run out then its grid import but its the same rate 24x7.

You are charging it from half past noon until five thirty in the morning.

You need to change 12:30 to 00:30 😃

my system on Eco with timed charge 00:30 -07:30 to suit Eco7.
It charges at 15p and then tries to minimize any grid import. if import is needed at 18:00ish it is at standard day rate of 30p.
If there is any sun the syetem uses that and tops the battry back up to minimize import later in the day

be careful with times jumping over midnight.
might need 2 slots just to rule out any problems

BlairS as others have said, no point charging overnight with a flat tariff. And since that might be the cause of at least some of the problems, try turning timed charge off, and see if the other problems go away, or if it still misbehaving.

Not much sun at the moment, so may be a while before you see how it behaves fully.

thanks for the replies , i only had it set tp timed charge to see if it would actually do it as it doesnt seam to do anything else i try and set it too and sure enough ot started to charge at 9 last night even though it was set for half middnight ( not half noon )

eco doesnt do what i want, its been set on eco and only eco with no other settings active for the last month and its still using the battery when i dont want it too and sending power from the battery back to the grid

i cant be alone in not wanting the free energy stored in the battery to be sent to the grid and not used in house ?

sorry my bad typing , it was set for half middnight till 05.30

No, but for most (?) of us, it does work as you want.

Did you try resetting everything to default? The default behaviour should operate exactly as you want

(Note that there will always be a small leakage to the grid - just a few tens of watts. The inverter is reactive to changes in demand, but will always be a few seconds behind. You can just ignore that.)

I have found that,

Set eco on (submit)
enable set timed charge to when you want ie 23:30 to 5:30 (submit)
enable set timed discharge to 5:30 to 23:30 (submit)
disable timed discharge (submit)
set your battery options (submit)
Turn eco mode off (submit)
turn eco mode back on (submit)

For me this seems to work everytime.

hislordship_battery I'm surprised you need to set a timed discharge - for me, that would discharge at fixed power, though I think that differs between generations of the inverter. Since that's the entire period you're not charging, isn't it the same as not setting a timed discharge?

Since OP is on a flat tariff, no benefit in charging from grid (other than to warm the battery overnight, if it's in a cold space).

DD It disables the timed discharge when you reset the eco on but still enables discharge between the time stated. Not sure why but has worked on 3 separate installs for me.

hislordship_battery eco mode on should be sufficient to achieve that. Forcing it off then on again is a good way to ensure portal is not seeing a stale value - forcing a reread via the remote control section is another way to do that
