Suggestion for the slow charge / warm battery idea.

This is a follow on from the EVM / Givenergy youtube video on thermal management.
I'm on octopus intelligent, so I have those 6 hours of cheap charging.

The suggestion in the video is that you can lower your charge rate so that charging is spread out over that cheap time period.
This means that the battery is kept warm by charging, rather than getting hot at the beginning of cheap period, then cooling down and lowering performance in winter months.

So I have a 9.5kwh battery, 3kw inverter, so I should charge at...err 50%? is that right?
What about losses? Hmm.
This is where my suggestion comes in.

1) You have my smart tarrif, so you can see that cheap period
2) You know the size of my battery (Actually you know how full my battery is!) - So you know how much power needs to go into the battery.
3) You know what my inverter is (3kw ac coupled).

So have an "Optimise my charging" button.
I should press it, then as if by magic the % to charge during the cheap rate should be calculated. That way I don't have to do any maths.
You could even allow the battery to charge at full wack in the last 30 minutes.

NSR2 I run a script on my rpi that runs at 2325 each night and does just that: calculates the charging power required to get the battery from current SoC up to the target %ge in 6 hours.

I also noted the slow charge recommendation, so last night dropped the charge rate down to 4kw from the 6kw it was set at.
Below are yesterdays and todays results. By 9am the battery temps are near identical. Perhaps someone with an outdoor battery could repeat the test.

I agree that indoors, it's not necessary.
I assume you are AIO - on one of the other threads, people have reported that charging at 4kW rather than 6kW seems to mean that the BMS SoC tracking tends to be a bit more accurate.

(Another benefit of charging slower is that I believe it to be kinder to the battery.)

For those using Predbat there is a low charging power option https://springfall2008.github.io/batpred/customisation/#inverter-control-options that does just this, reduces the charging rate so the charging target will be met as late as possible.

I've also submitted a Predbat feature request last night for the battery warming mode if the battery temp drops too much to do an additional charge. My batteries are in the garage and I'm on Agile so charge up overnight anyway so don't think this'll be particularly needed for me, but a useful feature to have

NSR2 We do exactly this with our charge schedules. Users have the option to have the charge rate automatically adjusted and spread out over the charge window.
