Hi,

I was replacing some ceiling lights yesterday and switched all of the power off by the switch board. I flipped all the switches back up again after installing the lights.

Went to go check the GE app today and it says I haven't connected to the system for over a day.

The lights are on on the inverter and battery. But scanning for the inverter doesn't show anything.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi mate, sounds like its your home wifi, have you tried restarting the router ?

Can i just say if you have a modern consumer unit, you can just turn of the trip switch marked B6 that's the lighting

Hope this helps mate

Hi, I've tried resetting the router and it hasn't fixed the issue.

Also tried turning off and on some isolated switches but that doesn't seem to work either.

Could it have disconnected from the WiFi? I can't seem to find it when searching for the inverter

Karl340 it does sound like it’s disconnected from the wifi. Turning the inverter off and on again (follow the shutdown procedure in the GivEnergy installation guide) should force it to try to reconnect

Just tried shutting it all down. Left it for 5 minutes and turned it all back on.

Still not connected. Is there further troubleshooting?

If you can login to the router on the 2.4 ghz network try changing the channel to manual and pick channel 11 if that don't work try 6

Karl340 When the power was off, was your wifi router off as well?

On your wifi router, try turning the 5GHz network off. The givenergy donglescan only connect to a 2.4GHz network and if there is a 5GHz present they don’t like it. This is usually only an issue on the initial wifi connection, but worth a try.

The inverter was setup on my WiFi extender. Not sure what the issue is

Yeah I have just tried that, turned the 5Ghz off on both my normal WiFi and the extender, which the inverter was originally set up with. Restarted all the system and it's still not connecting.

Maybe I have to speak to the engineer/electrician that set it up?

To be honest i'm not a big fan of wifi extender, but i do understand some people need them

Did you login to the router like i said and change the channel number for 2.4 ?

K
#11 Karl340

lifco
I didn't as that shouldn't change anything on the main router. The WiFi extender didn't have that choice to change the channel. Or would the main router affect the somehow?

Also will changing the channel make other devices stop working?

L
#12 lifco

It's a well know problem with 2.4 ghz, some devices don't like low band channels and find it hard to connect

This is why i said to pick channel 11 first

It's the main router you need to do this on mate

No changing the channel will effect nothing at all, but getting the right channel helps devices connected better, and i feel this is your problem

K

lifco
Okays it's changed to channel 11. Now should I do the full shutdown and restart procedure on the inverter?

G
#14 geoffreycoan

Karl340 yes that will force it trying to reconnect to the router.

Can you login to the wifi hot spot that the inverter provides and do a channel scan to see if the inverter can see your wifi ok? Instructions for this are in the knowledge base https://kb.givenergy.cloud/article.php?id=1

Can't seem to login to the inbuilt WiFi. I used the serial number of the inverter but still not connecting. A bit of context, my whole system was setup on a government scheme so I didn't do the full setup myself.

Might have to speak to support to help me out here.

Karl340 Sorry I can’t help much further

Karl i'm lost to what you are saying my friend

Inbuilt wifi ?
used the serial number of the inverter but still not connecting ?
The government scheme setup your wifi and your solar system ?

Honest i'm lost now

lifco the GivEnergy inverter has a wifi dongle that connects to your home wifi but it also acts as a wifi hotspot in its own right. This is how the engineers configure your inverter to connect to the WiFi network.

By default there’s no password for the inverter wifi. The engineers should set a password as part of the installation process and setting it to the inverter serial number is what’s suggested in the GivEnergy wifi installation manual.

@Karl340 you could try your home wifi password. Certainly one other person on here found that their engineers had set the inverter wifi password to the home wifi password

You can reset the wifi dongle to have no password, something like holding down its button for 15 seconds - there's a KB article about it.

Tried all of the passwords I know. Been told by GE support that I'll have to contact the installer.

Been told I can't open the Gen 3 inverter myself to access the reset switch because ita unsafe/live cables.

K

The GEN3 Inverter doesn't have a dongle that sticks out like the previous 2 gens. It's built in WiFi. Plus the reset button is inside. It's not a simple reset like others I've seen

geoffreycoan I know this, Did it read like i din't know ? sorry if it did mate

if you see my old post about the security problems that you need to fix on the open network dongle

As they just leave open, so anyone can connect

K
#23 Karl340

lifco
Yeah it's definitely asking for a password, can't just leave it blank. I've read the manual and it looks like I have to do something to the dip switches. Reckon its safe to take off the front cover while it's all live or should I isolate it then move the dip switches?

Not sure if it needs power when moving the dip switches to properly reset.

T

Karl340 I think it has to be rebooted after changing the dip switches, so may be best to turn off, wait 5 mins, change them, turn back on.

The dip switches need to be in different positions depending on what connection is used e.g. ethernet, in built WiFi or USB dongle (yes they can have a dongle, although shouldn't be needed!).

It will be

login = admin
password = admin

K
#26 Karl340

lifco
When trying to connect to the Inverter built in WiFi it's got to be a minimum of 8 digits unfortunately

K
#27 Karl340

TX200 I've tried that and now the battery turns on but turns off after 5 seconds with a red light. All isolator switches are on, nothing has changed on the system.

Do you have any ideas?

G
#28 geoffreycoan

Karl340 red light on the battery indicates a battery fault. It could be as simple as you’ve dislodged the battery management (thin black) data cable going into the inverter.

Can i just ask, are you trying to login to the M2M web server

K
#30 Karl340

geoffreycoan left it for 10 mins and switched it back on. Battery is all good now. Still no luck with the wifi

K
#31 Karl340

lifco
Can't get to that bit yet. I need to login/connect to the Built in WiFi before I enter the 10.10.100.254 address in chrome. Am I correct in that?

The initial connect to WiFi is the bit I'm struggling with

L
#32 lifco

If your trying to login to the M2M, it would be more like this 192.168.1.50 etc

You neen to login to your router and find the battery and the IP it uses

K
#33 Karl340

All sorted now. Had to do a reset on the WiFi button. Had to have GE talk me through the process of taking off the Inverter cover. Locating and holding down the reset button and configuring the WiFi to connect to my extender.

App and solar system is all working now 😊.
Thanks for everyone's assistance, helped me narrow the problem down with the support team 👍
