Is anyone on here tracking the Gas usage on Home Assistant Energy Dash with the prices and getting good results?
I’ve got the Octopus Energy add on installed but can’t seem to figure out which entity I would use for the Gas consumption and the price.
Any help appreciated.

The entity to track is Gas ... current accumulative consumption I believe.
The ... being account number/meter number info
The price is the one that says Gas ... current rate

I've tried these and it just outs all the Gas for one day at 1500. Is there a way to track it like the Electricity is tracked showing every hour?

Chaz.
Have you been through the energy dashboard setup guide for the Octopus Energy integration?
PianSom I never received a mini so bought the Hildebrand Glow and it has worked perfectly for Gas and Electric, the IHD is pretty nice too, much better than the Octopus crap
And on the subject of DNO data, there’s this https://github.com/HandyHat/ha-hildebrandglow-dcc Home Assistant integration that retrieves data direct from the DNO without needing the Hildebrand device.
I tried it for a while and in the end gave up with it. The data is just too lagged. You’d get consumption data maybe every 4 to 6 hours, but never aligned with real time, i.e. there would always be further catchup data needed.
I found my inverter electricity import/export data was accurate enough when compared to my Octopus account readings so worked out how to use that in the dashboard to give today’s pricing & consumption. Then some time later the Octopus mini arrived but I just left it on the inverter readings as it was accurate enough and I had the history preserved.

I waited months and months for an OHM to arrive, and eventually gave in and bought a Hildebrand - which, as you say, works flawlessly. Excellent MQTT integration. Then, of course, the OHM arrived a few weeks later. And just after that a new IHD arrived from Octopus.
So I now have all three connected to my meters - more (identical) data than I know what to do with. And a utility room bristling with mostly redundant devices. First world problems.

On the subject of meter data, is anyone else missing all Octopus data for the last few days? Last reading for any of the 3 MPANs I have is 2330 on 24/2/23. Brother in law has the same and he's a couple of hundred miles away so I doubt its anything to do with signal. Waiting for n3rgy to pull the data to see if its DCC or Octopus this time.....

Vestas I think it is Octopus. Last data for me is 25th for import, and 22nd for export (although the export was a months catch up as the new Smart Meter hadn't been read for export).
n3rgy was up to date yesterday to the 26th for both.
Oh a refresh shows import data for 26th on Octopus now and n3rgy has yesterday's data for both import and export.

Vestas My export data is missing for 26th and 27th Feb. My import is showing on the account but I have an Octopus Home Mini so it’s probably that that’s being shown. I have noticed thatthe OHM sends import data in near real time not export.
Think I will unplug my IHD in favour of HA data. The only reason I had it plugged in was to see what the daily total was, and it shows the spend based (I think) on the flat import tariff, so is useless on agile. Could use it to see kWh I guess but no-one else in the family cares about it
V
#13Vestas
geoffreycoan Ours has been sporadic since they changed the agile tariff a couple of weeks ago and I don't think its a coincidence - import went AWOL for about a week in part of their website when the tariff changed (standing charge) although the API pull had the "missing" data.
They're definitely getting worse 🙁

If you move to Octopus Gas tracking do you know if it is possible to get your IHD updated as it changes daily? I was considering purchasing a Hildebrand but they have advised me that they use the meters as a source. They cannot support the tracker as it changes daily and not set on the meter. They got it working for Agile as the team did the work and hoping in the future to do the same for the Tracker.
I use the Home Assistant integration along with the Home mini as setup following the YouTube videos from @SpeakToTheGeek I am hoping it is as accurate, but as the Gas does not update on the Octo app regular enough its hard to compare.
G
#15geoffreycoan
Rodmac76 I doubt you will get the IHD to be updated on any kind of reasonable frequency as that’s driven by what the DNO knows and AFAIK Octopus don’t push any of the smart tariff pricing data to the DNO, leaving the IHD stuck on an old import rate.
But confused about your statement about using HA and prices not being updated. If you are using the Octopus Energy (bottlecapdave) integration it should be pulling the current, previous & next prices from your Octopus tariff automatically. If your account is not getting this data updated every day then there’s a problem Octopus need to look at

My meters stopped when the July1st 2023 tariff was pushed out (working until 23:30 30/6/23 on logs). Since then I have been trying to get Oct to fix. I have had 7 different meters fitted. I am convinced it is back end issue, but all I get is "engineer must fit new meter" Dont get me on the word "engineer" having been Chartered Engineer since 1986.
Octo have to respond to Ombudsman 4th march . I dont want any money, I just want them to work so I can use my system of panels and battery as Tesla/Edison/Watt etc intended
I know what Octopus have done to ours - they've buggered up the security certificate update, which frankly is gross incompetence. Their service is going down the toilet....

I have tried telling them changing the meter and hoping for a different result is a waste of time.

Will do, but my stance has always been for Octo to get to the point of kicking the DCC to fix things. I dont think it is an OCTO problem, but i cannot complain about the DCC as I do not have a contract with them.

SteveCook Can't expect anything else from Crapita, they're totally incomptent.
S

Vestas Yes but they keep getting major HMGov contracts that they screw up,

SteveCook That's because the board is a revolving door for the most useless politicians out there. It was a creation of Thatcher (that and Serco) and was basically an accounting trick to make it look like she cut the civil service pay bill. Its always had the worst possible staff.

Still no reply from Octopus after a week. Bloody useless.
I got the DNO* to pull the fuse & restart the meter and all is well again, firmware/cert update took this time. n3rgy shows all the data is there, Octopus still have a week+ missing and are now trying to bill us on variable rate. They're not getting paid and I'm going to ask for compo as this is the third bill in a row they've screwed up.
*we're on a new-build estate so the DNO guys are around regularly fitting new electric/gas/water meters so I just grabbed one of them and asked. Really he shouldn't have done it without telling Octopus but its not exactly rocket science.

I am due reply from Ombudsman today (i just want meters to connect), but I bet Octo will say that Arqiva (DCC) have installed in 95% of homes (or whatever their target is) and it is just tough luck.
Ignore the fact they dont work!
Ombudsman chasing DCC is HMGov suing HMGov
V
#26Vestas
SteveCook I thought Octopus had to respond to the ombudsman today, not that you were getting a decision?
S
#27SteveCook
Vestas yes I think that is what the Ombudsman Service internet page says. Reply today from Octo, but I expect they will say they have been chasing Arqiva hard and nothing can be done.
I dont know if Octo then raise a case with the Ombudsman
V
#28Vestas
Too late now but did you do a subject access data request before you took this to the ombudsman? That should have shown exactly what Octopus did/didn't do on your account.

Sorry no, I did not know anything about that.]
I have posted lots of evidence emails showing what they told me/promised me and then more showing they had never delivered.

Octopus have just emailed saying the goodwill gesture they applied because they could not tell I was off peak importing to charge my battery. They charged me peak day rate for 6 months electricity.
I downloaded all the half hour data and proved I was right. They had no data or defence so made a goodwill gesture to make the bill correct.
At the time I said it was not a gesture but a correction
They have removed the credit because I have spoken to the Ombudsman!
They have removed the credit because I have spoken to the Ombudsman!
What? Sort of an out-of-spite gesture? Bizarre.

When I provided all the half hourly data to show what my off peak billing and export billing should have been from the EM115 they could not correct the bill because they could not accept 3rd party meter data and chose to do it via a goodwill gesture. I accepted that 'cos it just about got to the right place maths wise.
Because i have now complained to Ombudsman that my meters are still dumb the "gesture has been removed".
Never mind the 12 days wasted as meters changed and changed again, and the hours spent on spreadsheets proving my position. They did zero, even after I offered my GivEnergy API so they could download the EM115 data (installed in a system by one of their partner companies)

SteveCook That's pretty shocking. Have you thought of pinging Greg Jackson on Twitter? He tends to be pretty responsive if you publicly @ him with complaints.

I have ccd him an email that I sent to one of the Octo team (trying) to explain things. Do they employ engineers or just people to bat stuff back/away with inane responses

SteveCook See how you go, but CC'ing might not be enough, I can imagine given the volume of e-mail he receives, he gives more priority to e-mails where's he's in the To field, rather than CC.

I have posted a Tweet - I am am no good at this sort of thing. Tweet reads "I wish Octo would take me to court so I can prove they were wrong in billing me at standard rate". I gave them all the HH data from the EM115 all annotated with the correct tariffs. They provided no data even after taking the meters away ( i presume data can be bench downloaded?)
They have promised to investigate an phone me
It can be downloaded without removing the meter - regardless of whether the meter is connected to DCC or not - just like meters can be commissioned without a signal. You just need to know how to do it - or rather train people to do it. Clearly Octopus don't.
V
#40Vestas
Also I'd go to the press with this one - Guardian would go for it, they think Octopus is overrated (it is) - as its really a classic example of how to screw up a company's reputation by being completely petty.
#41Wonder Watt
SteveCook Can you link the tweet here please? So we try and get some traction going for you?
Octopus finally replied to our email after nearly 2 weeks.
Its a wonderful work of fiction claiming the delay in sorting things out is due to DCC not being able to get the data. n3rgy have had it for 5 days now but Octopus say they're still waiting for it....
S
#44SteveCook
Well. Octopus populated the Ombudsman evidence page basically saying. "I should never have been given a smart tariff as the signal is not strong enough.
Not their problem and DCC has until 2025 as regulations"
S

Octopus called this morning .
Apparently there is a meter that is combined GSM/RF.
They hope that will overcome the fact Arqiva don't really seem to care (RF in the north)
Arqiva claim they have achieved 99.5% coverage as contracted to do by HMGov.
Dont publish on % that work.
