Separating Products in Forum

As a recent forum joiner I note that discussions spread far and wide, but it is often difficult to see if the 'problem' applies to an equipment which is relevant to me. For example, there are I understand three different variants of the Hybrid Inverter and each of those in two output powers. They have differing releases of software, and some of these releases are not shown on the GivEnergy website .

Would it make sense to be able to tag those disucssions where it is relevant, with the equipment type and revision. i.e. one level down from the current rather broad; Hybrid; Battery; etc. One could then search for, and contribute to, discussions around the type of equipment one owns.

The_Engineer Yes, you're probably right. But, like any forum, there's also the problem that threads drift away from their original topic. Some users seem to be troubled by the idea of starting a new thread, and will tag their question onto the bottom of an unrelated thread.

The new forum (beta) does split things out more logically.
A fudge for this inflexible one was to add your kit to your profile image (as mine is) so at least people answering have a fighting chance of knowing which products your talking about.

And a lot of people don’t bother searching or even scrolling down the list of previous forum questions before raising

“I’ve got a new wifi how do I connect my inverter to it” probably number one frequently re-asked question. But there’s plenty of others

hoggy Is that a new forum in beta testing, or a new forum for discussing beta revisions of GE firmware? I thought it was the latter. And I can see that it would be absolultely necessary to that - there were some long-running threads on here when I first joined, and it was impossible to tell which revision of the firmware they were (currently) talking about - the titles referenced well-out-of-date versions.

DD I understood it was going to replace this forum eventually. The "interesting" parts of the beta trials are on there but locked off from view unless you are taking part (which I'm not) but the rest is still open to all as far as i can tell. There's plenty of none Firmware related queries on it already.
