Thoughts on intelligence octopus Flux

Is this intelligent tariff from octopus actually work and earning/saving people more money?!

I just moved to it, I will remain on it for until mid September where I will be around £300 in profit.
I think the tariff came out too late in the summer to get lots of experiences.
I was shocked when I realised that this tariff will not hammer your battery as much as a 3 hour charge and using it all day.
It charges a lower rates, keeps the battery cooler and does not charge to 100% just for the sake of having spare

hoggy Worth bearing in mind that if the battery was installed after 13/2/24 then using intelligent flux will change the battery warranty from unlimited cycles to "fair use allowance".

ii) When controlled by a 3rd party or used for grid trading*, a fair use allowance of 10MWh/1kWh stored capacity applies. *Grid trading refers to the system being used to offer services to the grid whether or not for financial gain.

I'll probably add that bit on when I get chance. Thinking of jumping back on at end of the month. Was half and half doing it now but long range weather would suggest it might not be a good idea just yet.
Not sure who/what the current record holder is for throughput. I'm up at 16MWh now on one of mine.

hoggy I think GE are bricking it when they see some of the predbat usage figures, hence the change in warranty terms 🙂

However changing the warranty terms in their own favour if the end-user uses a tariff GE negotiated with Octopus says a lot about how much people should trust the company.

I hammer my battery and my usage in and out would mean I would not hit 80% of that level in 10 years. I wouldn't be put off with the new warranty term

hamilton Yeah, it's something approaching 3 full cycles per day, IIRC ? (1000 per year for 10 years.) Seems quite a good lifetime's work for a lithium battery.

I've been on it for a week now, the peak battery temperature is 28 degrees when compared to 38 degrees when the doing force block charging.

My charge levels are 20-95% which probably extends the battery as well. I'm sure it will extend to 100% charge in the coming months but probably not every day like standard flux.

hamilton It won't apply to you anyway. Its the fact they feel the need to insert that clause now for batteries which they were quite happy to call "unlimited throughput" 6 months ago (12 year warranty announcement back in Sept 23) which is interesting/disturbing.

Suggests they've been looking at some users throughput figures and not liking the results - or perhaps not liking the way the battery cells are aging/behaving. The cell manufacturers test the lifespan of the batteries with full charge/discharge cycles. I wonder what the effect of alternating full charge rate for 30 minutes then full discharge rate for 30 minutes & rinse repeat as with agile/predbat has on lifespan?

Anyway its only affecting you if you got a battery after 23/2/24, they can't backdate warranty changes....
