I saw recently that according to the knowledge base, there was a firmware update for both my battery and inverter.

I have a dual AC3 & 9.5 Battery setup, and the battery updated all fine last night, and went from 3013 to 3015 no problem.

Both inverters however are on D0.535-A0.535 which is a few versions old now, and the option to update the software in the portal does not show up, even though the knowledge base mentions 4 firmware revisions have come out since then https://kb.givenergy.cloud/article.php?id=23

is there a trick to upgrading the inverters or am I missing something?

elsmorian it’s apparently being rolled out in stages to all AC3 customers as I’m awaiting the same thing

Oh right! It would be good if that was mentioned in the knowledge base! I guess will hold tight for that! Thanks for the info @Smk82

Hiya, were you eon customers?

Smk82 most likely 1 AC3 per week. This update has been a long time coming..

There are people like me, who have an AC3 and two 'old' 80% DoD 8.2s, that absolutely do NOT want any 'update' to their firmware. The 3 year old firmware works wonderfully with the old-tech batteries, no SoC jumps or other rubbish.

Baychattan Ditto from me...

I emailed support and got them to update the FW on my AC3.
Response times are much better. But, I now appear to have no way to NOT charge my battery from PV. Previously i set charge power to zero and that exported all my PV.

Roberto Do you have a timed pause available via remote control section? If you do, that might give you a way to pause charging. (That's what I use on hybrid inverter.)

R
#11 Roberto

DD Not that I can see. The app on my phone looks the same with no additional functions. I used to turn the charge rate to zero to export , as I have 2 off 9.5 Kwh batteries and charge these overnight. I rarely need to charge them via PV especially as I get 15p/unit and can charge for 7.5p/unit. I could pause it via the app, but i could do that before. Its just that my workaround from before FW update worked. But now it doesnt !

D
#12 DD

Roberto No, pause on the app works by setting charge/discharge power to 0. On the portal, there's a remote-control section which gives access to additional settings that are not available on app, or on the main part of the portal. Things like additional charge/discharge slots.

R
#13 Roberto

Cant see a " timed pause" section in my remote control section of the portal. Just a single timed charge and 2 timed discharges.

D
#14 DD

Roberto Oh well... different feature sets on different inverters, unfortunately.

R
#15 Roberto

DD Do you have this feature on your AC3 /portal ?

D
#16 DD

Roberto no, I have a hybrid. Older hybrids don't have the feature either.

R
#17 Roberto

DD no pause fearure on AC3

Oh they are finally rolling out the AC3 firmware? I look forward to seeing it.

Wild that it first appeared in August and still isn't on my 3 AC3s.

Get Giv support to update your AC3. Just email them. They do all the work for you.

elsmorian Did you get a firmware update? I ask as I was surprised how old my firmware is, it's the same as yours and there are several newer versions and I could swear blind I had newer updates. So I emailed support and they said and I quote "This is the latest version for plant systems, the new series firmware is not eligible for plant systems."

I'm quite p1ssed off at this, I spent a ton of money in good faith and expected a lot better. Looking at the portal it shows multiple firmware updates in the past, they were not all battery. I swear I've been downgraded.

I assume from what you wrote you also have a plant system?

Anyone else on AC3 plant on newer firmware?

S
#21 Simon-D

My system is classed as a plant as I have dual AC3 and four batteries.

I still running on the Inverter firmware D0.535-A0.535 and battery firmware 3009, my system was installed back in March 2023

Not seen any real issues with my system running the old firmware so happy to stick with it for the time being.

I am waiting for the EMS to be released before I start looking at upgrade firmware

R
#22 Roberto

204 here. Although i thought i had gone back to 203 as i had issues with the battery charge rate.
Often i want to export rather than charge batteries so manually change charge rate to 0. But 204 and 203 dont do this properly.
But im not plant. Just one AC3 and 2 off 9.5s.

There's some form of EMS functionality in the latest firmware
Roll on release of the EMS :-)

A204-D204 (09 Feb 2024)
1. Export Limit Overflow error Fix.
2. Optimize the battery removal mechanism when receiving the battery sleep instruction
3. Add some certifications for EN50549
4. Added the quick protection function of battery overvoltage interruption
5. Add EMS CPU parallel control parameters
R
#24 Roberto

Anyone on 204 or 203, try to change charge rate to anything other than 100% or even 0 watts. Does it work for you.

M
#25 MarkMilward

Roberto yes, I've been at 50% charge last few sunny days with no problems.

Totally frustrating to know there’s a decent update and zero clue as to when the upgrade button will appear. I search about once a week. Nothing. When are GE going to give a clue how long this rollout is going to take? Days, weeks, months, years. Come on GE.

#27 hoggy

AlyBee22 think rollout of it has been paused again:

AlyBee22 Same issue with the hybrid Gen 1 firmware. They were promising release last Autumn for new inverter firmware (believe it's very similar to the AC3) but still not on general release though many have already been upgraded. It's a poor showing by GE and very disappointing! Their priorities seem to have been with the AIO issues and battery problems.

R
#29 Roberto

Anyone tried A205 yet ?

#30 positor1

updated to it yesterday. no issues so far. i do notice a change to the reported soc level graph but levels seem correct so its just a change to the last 2% charging parameters i guess.

R
#31 Rtidey

I changed to A205 8 days ago and its been running fine since with no issues. From the release notes there were no dramatic changes.

R
#32 Roberto

Just tried the update and it failed. Just trying a second time.

I am also still on D535-A535 from (12 May 2022), I emailed GivEnergy regarding updating the firmware.

AC coupled firmware revisions (https://kb.givenergy.cloud/article.php?id=23)
A205-D205 (22 May 2024)
A204-D204 (09 Feb 2024)
D203-A203 (12 Dec 2023)
D202-A202 (22 Aug 2023)
D201-A201 (18 Aug 2023)
D535-A535 (12 May 2022)

With my firmware being over two years old, I did email GivEnergy with regards to updating the firmware, they replied with the following:

These are the latest firmware's that are still being worked on. However, your system doesn't require for it to be updated as it is not showing for an available firmware update, the firmware that your system is currently is stable.

Kind regards

MadProfessor2002
the firmware that your system is currently is stable.
What language was that translated from.

MadProfessor2002 this really sucks for me.. still on 535 with my AC3s. Only have two options as my installer went with what GE we’re recommending back during install which was run both via a single meter… ( it was originally individually setup)

1) swap back to individual meters/independent systems. Would allow me to run the faster FW and sort out data garbage. Trouble is installer does’t seem to want to know. Just keep being told “be patient”. Basically it’s a low pay job in comparison to a new install and I’m not exactly round the corner. It’s been two months since I’ve had a response despite chasing them

  1. Await the CEMS. Should be about 2 months away from what I’ve seen on posts elsewhere. That might need 1) doing anyway🤔😂.

If I go to a different installer to sort things, where does that leave me in respect of warranty? Obviously I still have the manufacturers warranty with GE, would the new one simply “take over” the warranty/monitoring of it become my point of contact?

This morning I had a notification that a update was available in the portal.
The update has just finished and the Inverter is now on D0.205-A0.205 (22 May 2024).

S
#37 Smk82

MadProfessor2002 apparently I won’t see any update appear (it is not offered to systems registered as “plant”). I have to have ems installed

W

Got my notification today -update went fine, took about 20 minutes.

L

wilfleek update came through and went smoothly. Not sure why but total charge now sits at 99 rather than 100%

H
#40 hamilton

mine sits at 99% now, I wish it would just lie to me and say 100% for my OCD, also wish that solar should not be shown under 20w, just say its 0 as its midnight!

Reviving a bit of an old thread here- life happened and I didn't really follow this up, but then I saw that there was a BMS update the other day, so now I'm running 3017.

@MarkMilward Yes I have a dual AC3/9.5 Battery setup, interesting that that might be why I'm not getting the updated inverter firmware options- I was looking forward to the updated speed of response. Though also interesting if the later firmware removes the option to setting the charge power to zero as I use that most days as I prefer to export any extra and then charge up overnight.

So maybe an EMS (or I think what will end up being the CEMS?) is the only way to get the faster reaction time from a plant based install?

N
#42 Nev Young

I updated to BMS 3017and inverter A205-D205.
Since then I have been unable to do an a/c charge overnight and my battery is sitting at 4%. (Now 6% as we had some sun today). Battery discharge appears to be severely limited (845W despite load being 2.5kW).
I've effectivly been without a battery for just over a week now.
GE are investigating. Or so I'm told.

S
#43 Smk82

elsmorian I also have a dual setup, and from what I’ve been told by
Michael smith, we will need the EMS to get faster firmware as existing balancing programs on HA won’t react fast enough to deal with it (apparently). “EMS v1 has CA and CE certification and also just waiting for G100 Complience which will be with us next week”- from a fbook post that I asked a question about it on.

E

@Smk82 Aha, ok, thanks for that information!
