I am trying to get grips with my solar panel and battery installation. Can someone confirm if and how I tap into the battery when it’s 100% charged rather than consume from the grid.
Battery Power usage over grid
Is it set to eco mode?
As far as I know it should be set to do that automatically but not certain. I’ve just had my install done too, would like to know if I can turn off my supply TO the grid until I get my export MPAN. Does anyone know how?
Pakey07 No you can't.
Edit - you can. Turn off the inverter 😉
You’re obviously at the wind up!
The guy who done the install said the excess solar should only discharge when the battery is at 100% and the energy has no where else to go, is that correct?
Pakey07 That's a little oversimplified... it is not necessary for the battery to be at 100% for excess to be exported. There is an inverter power limit on DC output (eg 3.6kW for gen-3 hybrid), and you can limit that further through an inverter setting. And as the battery gets close to full, or when it gets cold, it can accept charge at a lower rate. Any time solar generation exceeds house consumption plus the charging limit, the excess will go to the grid.

If you create a free account at solcast.com.au and enter your solar panel details you can get a free solar forecast through the day. This can help you to decide if you can put the washing on for example on a sunny day and use the extra solar rather than let it get exported for free
