EV charger keeps going offline

Almost every time I go to charge my car the EV charger is offline. I plug the car in and nothing happens. The only option is to turn the EV charger on and off again at the fusebox.

Any ideas? This has been the case for several months. There doesn’t seem to be a clear reason or pattern as to why it happens.

Thanks

Had mine installed 4 weeks ago and was going offline randomly, occasionally with a message on the app saying it had "trouble connecting to the Internet". So bit the bullet and ran a 30 metre ethernet cable across the front of the house through to the garage and, via a network switch I already had, I cabled it directly into the EV charger and did the same for the inverter. Since then it hasn't been offline again. I would recommend you do the same if possible and you have been using wifi for connectivity. Will rule that out if nothing else

Thanks, but I am not sure that’s the issue. It worked fine until recently and I haven’t had any alerts saying it couldn’t connect. It’s right next to the inverter etc. which haven’t had any issue connecting to the internet. There’s a MESH satellite about 5 metres away from it.

You are probably right then. In my case I had placed a MESH box less than a metre away i.e. the other side of the outside wall that the charger was on so figured either something was interfering with the signal or the wifi antenna etc in the EV charger isn't particularly good. Anyway, hard wiring solved it for me.
Good luck finding a resolution :-)

Now had more issues with some random error.

Can someone from givenergy provide some help?

This was happening with our Zappi when first installed it turned out to be the grid voltage was too high and the Zappi was switching off when this occurred. It is worth checking what your grid voltage is over time and when the charger goes offline.

It may be a red herring and has nothing to do with your issue but if grid voltage is a problem then contact your dno and they will test and if they see the grid being above limits they are obliged to fix it.

Fault code 26 is normally triggered by a voltage Over 253V or under 207V (PEN fault protection). If you can trace back in your Givenergy logs the grid voltage you should be able to track it down. (It can obviously be triggered by an actual earth fault but that is unlikely to be a fault that clears)

FYI all the other codes are on Page 9 of the manual: https://midsummerwholesale.co.uk/pdfs/installation-manual---ev-charger---11.10.23.pdf
Pointless trivia: They also match up to the fault codes matrix for Immersun and some other chargers from the Weeyu days if you want a slightly more descriptive indication of fault codes meaning.

EV installations - watch out for the voltage drop across the cable to the charger. A 6mm cable is often used up to 15m. 10mm would be better. What I'm trying to say is that your charger will see a lower voltage than your inverter - it can trip even if your supply voltage is above the DNO low limit (207VAC).

I spoke to support over the weekend and was told it's a know issue. They advised not using config D and to change to either A,B or C. Obviously you need a CT clamp for C.

The issue appears to not be with the charger losing connection locally but with it not been able connect to the portal. You can prove this by pinging the local IP address when it says offline on the app.

It also has a config page accessible via a browser using it's local IP addresses. Unfortunately I don't know the password for this. When it goes offline this stops been accessible as well.

I have changed mine back to config D and it appears to be working again. It seems like a change was made Wednesday / Thursday last week that caused a spike in the issue.
