Firstly this is my first post so apologies if it isn't up to standard! Also I am a complete layman and struggle a little with the terminology, etc, so please bear that in mind. We have a 5.2kwh battery but on average it only discharges approx 3kwh. For example it was 100% yesterday but only discharged 2.98kwh before taking from the grid. We have it set to Eco as we chose Mode 2 (take from the battery when demand is more than the solar panels are generating). We have contacted GivEnergy and they have recalibrated the battery but still no joy (I am still waiting for them to get back to me). Are we missing something, is this normal?

Clarkie I think the 5.2kWh battery is advertised as 80% DoD (depth of discharge), so only around 4kWh is usable. (But I may be wrong.) But 3kWh is still only 3/4 of what you should be getting out if it.
I'm not familiar with the terminology "Mode 2". Google found it in the user manual, but I'm not really any the wiser.
Which type of inverter do you have (hybrid, ...) and which generation (gen-1, gen-2, gen-3). Do you know which version of the firmware it is running? (It will tell you on the 'software' part of the inverter page on the portal.) Is it a recent install ?
Some older versions of the firmware seem to have trouble keeping track of how much energy is available in the battery. If you look at the graph of the charge level, was it smooth all the way down to the minimum, or did it suddenly jump down?
(Apologies if it sounds like an interrogation !)
DD is correct, the 5.2kWh battery is only 80% depth of discharge so there’s only 4.2kWh usable from your battery.
But that doesn’t explain the 3kWh you are getting from it.
Worth checking what the battery reserve level is set to, this is how far the battery will discharge down to. It should be 4%.
Thank you both for your thoughts! Checked Inverter: GIV-HY3.6 and the firmware(?) is: D0.913-A0.913. Operating Reserve was 11% but I've changed it to 4% thank you. Charge and Discharge Power are both 2611w. Will re-setting to Factory Defaults do anything (I don't want to lose any of my data though)? Mode 2 from what I've read appears to be the Eco mode which is what it's on and what we want. Also have tried to attach a .pdf of the battery discharge. Disclaimer; still a layman! Thank you again for taking the time to look at !
At risk of stating the obvious, are you mixing power (2611W which is the correct charge/discharge rate for a 5.2kWh battery) with the stored energy which should be about 4kWh?
Steve, my apologies but how do you mean? The 2611W hasn't been adjusted by me as I don't know what it does.

Not relevant, but it's interesting that the battery was at 100% all day until you started using it around 6pm. Was that intentional. Are you on an interesting tariff that makes exporting all your solar beneficial? (I do that, but I'm on a tariff with particularly cheap overnight rates.)
Or is this just a consequence of the calibration you asked GE to perform?
I found a user manual from site https://www.in2gr8tedsolutions.co.uk/user-manuals/givenergy-user-manual.pdf - I hadn't seen that on any GE pages. It talks about the modes on p10 (of 11). The portal images look like they might be from the legacy dashboard ?
At first glance, it looks lke your system is configured as mode 1 ? ("Hold battery charge during the day, and release it in the evening")
Away from the PC at present so will redo the screenshot soonest, thank you for looking at it. Have to explain the battery was on 100% following the recalibration and we didn't have Eco selected so it didn't discharge at all the night before, we only realised and changed that during the day while the sun was shining.

Clarkie no, it was just that all the activity was in the last 1/4 of the graph, so it was hard to gauge energy use from the width of the spikes.
But maybe the energy bar graph would be helpful, showing where the battery discharge was going.
During the calibration, how much energy went in to get it to 100%
I'm not really sure what I can offer really - might have to wait to see what GE say.
Has the system only recently reduced how much it could discharge, or have you only just noticed now that there's enough solar to fully charge in a day?
Only really noticed a week or so ago, was waiting for the installer to get back to me and when they did they advised support at GE and the forum. Not sure if the attached is what you're after; for the record the most the battery has discharged on any one day in Mar on that chart was around 2.6kwh. I shall chase GE again tomorrow as the recalibration has not worked and update everyone. This is some learning curve, I appreciate support!
Clarkie Almost... that's the view of where the energy to your home has coming from. I was looking for where the battery has charged to: if you drop down the list to the top-right of the graph, one of the options should be 'battery out'.
But rather than having to interpolate from a graph, perhaps simpler is to look at the meter data table. With it ordered to show the last datapoint on the top line, the 'battery out' or 'battery discharge today' should show what the inverter thought the total battery output had been that day. (The meter data tends to give slightly different numbers than the energy output view - I think the latter may be the portal interpolating the snapshot power data, whereas the meter data is recorded by the inverter itself. But I'm not quite sure.)

What battery firmware are you using?
I am on 3012 which I can recommend, I guess you are on an older (lower number) version. If so, phone the help desk and ask them to update your firmware and then calibrate your battery. I have tried 3013, 3014 and 3015 - all with issues with dual batteries. Your choice, good luck.
