Solar does not feed load when battery is charged above Charge To level

Hi,
I wonder if anyone else is seeing this?
When I have set the battery to charge to a particular level, and it has reached that level, any solar power is used to charge the battery and the load is supplied by importing. I don't want it to do this. I want to prioritise solar supplying to the load first, if the battery level is above the reserve level, and to import to charge the battery if it is below the Charge To level. I thought that's what these settings are intended for?

Summary: When 'Timed Charge' is enabled and the current time is within the 'Start Time' to ''End Time window, but the battery level is higher than 'Charge To', solar energy only goes into the battery and not to the load. Import is used for the load. It should prioritise load and then battery, as it does when not within the time window.
Steps to reproduce:

  1. On dashboard, go to My Inverter: Settings: Timed Charge
  2. Set Enabled on, Start Time to an hour ago, End Time to an hour hence
  3. Set Charge To to slightly less than the current battery level (assuming more than 4%)
    What happens: Solar power goes to charge the battery. Import power is used to supply Load.
    What should happen: Solar power supplies load, any excess goes to charge battery.
    Why? Because the battery charge level already exceeds the "Charge To" setting.

Clive_Sherborne Yes, mine seems to do the same (though gen-3 with A0.305)

Could argue that if you are charging from grid, it must mean that you are in a cheap off-peak period, and therefore it makes more sense to store the solar for later, rather than using it now.

The target SoC level only relates to AC charge, not solar. Simple as that.

What the OP wants to do can't be done using the portal/app.

Vestas I don't think they're asking that the battery must not be charged any more, since it's already above the target. It's that the inverter is not generating any AC, which means that home consumption has to be imported from the grid, when it could be covered from the solar.

DD But it won't be covered by PV as the system is within a timed charge period.

PV will charge battery to 100% during a timed charge period. That takes priority over home load.

SoC limit only works on AC charge so its working as designed.

DD Vestas I take your points, but I think my use case is valid. During the day, I gradually step up the Charge To and Reserve figures (they match each other) until 4pm when the price spikes (I'm on Octopus Agile) and the Reserve goes down to zero to release the battery to power the load. If it's sunny, I want to use the sun in whatever way makes sense (which is: first the load then the battery if any is left over), but if it all goes to charging the battery, the battery will reach 100% and I'll end up importing to power the load. Ridiculous! If it isn't sunny, then the charge will reach the target, I'll just have paid for the power.

Clive_Sherborne Instead of a timed charge would it not be simpler to just leave your battery in Eco mode with charge to set to 100% (which is probably ignored anyway). You can increase reserve to the level of min SoC you want to preserve for the peak period, then any solar will either supply house load as first priority and then charging the battery.

Clive_Sherborne okay, I think you're saying that you want the battery (fully?) charged by 4pm. You'd rather the solar did it, if it exceeds the consumption, but you'll use grid if necessary.
In particular, if it's very sunny, you wouldn't want to import anything at all.

Clive_Sherborne I'm not saying what you're trying to do isn't valid, I'm simply saying that the design won't allow you to do that.

You could do it by adjusting the battery charge rate but that's only going to be useful when automated.

Given you're on Agile then I think to make the most of that tariff you're going to require some form of local automation. I certainly wouldn't want to try to control our inverter solely via the app/portal and we're on the same tariff. Edit - or it doesn't have to be local, there's a couple of services like @Wonder Watt offer.
