Smart meter readings at odds with GivEnergy portal

I am new to this forum but have had the system for a year. Can someone explain to me why my smart energy figure is consistently higher than the monthly totals from my solar system. For instance in July 2023 GivEnergy had us importing 14.1kWh, the smart meter said 45.5kWh. Obviously we are being billed in the latter and I want to understand why the discrepancy. Any insight gratefully received!

SarahSolar That's a very big discrepency. May I ask which givenergy page you're getting the 14.1kWh figure from ? (Various pages can give partial results, such as "grid to battery", which can be distracting.)

DD It's the import tab of the 'energy' page, monthly totals

SarahSolar on the app ? Is that iOS or Android (I use the latter) - probably doesn't matter, but just for completeness.

Have you also looked at a monthly report generated by the portal ?

One remote possibility is that the givenergy system doesn't see all your import. For example I've just had my EV charger rewired so that it is taken from the meter tails before the givenergy CT clamp. (I don't want the inverter to see anything imported by the car charger, because it might try to discharge the battery to cover the load.) This means that my reports from givenergy don't include usage by the car.

DD the information on the app and the Giv Cloud provide the same information. And the totals are taken from the monthly report. We don't have an EV. It's just a bit weird. I might try having a chat with GivEnergy to see if they can explain it to me.

SarahSolar Those are obviously quite low numbers - 0.5kWh or 1.5kWh per day - so it's hard t have a feel for which one is more likely to be correct. Presuambly you were able to run mostly from solar in July.

In cooler months, is the difference still around 1kWh per day, or is it factor of 2 or more ?

It might be worth you creating an account with https://www.n3rgy.com/consumer/ and comparing the smart meter readings with what’s on the givenergy portal.

You don’t have more than 1 inverter do you? I have two hybrid inverters and the portal data is very messed up as a result.

SarahSolar I wonder if it could be an issue with the way the CT clamp is fitted, somehow. Not quite sure how, exactly.... Perhaps if it wasn't clamped completely shut, or if there's another cable too close so that it's pickup up stray fields, or... dunno, just clutching a bit here...

Or could just be a faulty clamp, of course.(Or a faulty smartmeter 😱)
