Morning all,

My Inverter occasionally goes offline, I think mainly due to the dongle loosing wifi connection (I use a wifi extender), but the latest issues is currently well over 30hrs of no data.

I've read-up on the forum and have carried out a load of steps, which include:

  • Resetting dongle
  • Removing & replacing GE Dongle
  • Shutting the whole system down (Battery, PVA, inverter, breakers etc), then restarting it all
  • wifi extender is set to 2.4mgz (I think!), but has been generally working perfectly!

But still nothing, all I get is the blue flashing light on the Dongle and no data reported at all, I know it's still all working though as the the lights are all on correctly physically on the inverter etc and I'm able to see via Octopus that I still exported a chunk of KW's yesterday.

I've even emailed GE support and called and left a message with the original installer (No replies yet from either!).

I'm not the most technical of people and sometimes struggle to understand fully some of the answers and comments on the forum, hence my new subject to see if there is anything else I can try/do to get things back online.

I have a Gen 1 3.6kw inverter, 9.5kw battery & 12 x 370W panels

Thanks in advance

You probably have, but have you switched off the power on your wifi extender, then restarted it again?
If it's not such a simple fix, then you'll need to log onto your dongle as a WiFi router (under connections on your phone or tablet - probably starting WOxxxxxxxx) and reset the dongle to search out the WiFi extender (which it appears to have lost). There are instructions on the GE website which I don't have to hand on how to do this.
Once the dongle has found the extender, you should probably set the extender to a fixed IP address through your main router. That way the main router won't change the IP address from time to time and you should get a more reliable connection. Hope the helps.

Yes I have reset the extender also. will try a search now on how to connect and reset the dongle to the wifi extender.

Thanks!

Update!!!!!

So firstly found a really good Givenergy YouTube video that really helped, quite funny also!

I followed those instructions and managed to get the dongle linked back to wifi - The dongle is now a solid Blue and with no more flashing.

I still don't have any data, but assume that it will take a little while for everything to bed back in

Thanks again Tim!

TimHutchings what’s the password for the dongle WiFi WO….
I don’t remember setting a password. Is there a factory default one?

KC73 Quite often (and this is recommended in the installer manual), the dongle password is set to the same as the serial number of your inverter (see the label on the side)

Thing is, the access point name was set to the serial number of the dongle, which was the same as that of the inverter (and battery) - I assume they're explicitly set that way ? So there wasn't a sufficiently different serial number available to use as a password.

I did try changing the access point name, but it went back after a powercycle, so that wasn't much good either.
