We've bought a new house with a GivEnergy package. We have solar panels, what I now understand to be an invertor? and a battery?
What I would appreciate is if someone could tell me how it works and what I need to do please?
I've downloaded an APP but the three options of 'smartplug, ev charger and Polar-Ess don't make seem to represent what I have?
Clearly, I'm pretty ignorant of this technology but am keen to learn for many reasons, one of which is that my electricity bill has risen despite downsizing!
Any friendly advice gratefully received, thank you
A novice....
GK'smate I’m sure there will be plenty of people here who are happy to help. Smart plug and eV charger are in reference to additional options which may be present in a system. Do you have a eV charger fitted externally?
GK'smate Polar Ess seems to be some sort of subsidiary brand of GivEnergy. Possibly selling cheaper versions of the same kit ?
Are you on Android? I'm not sure how things work on iOS
You probably want the (real) givenergy app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobile.givenergy . However, that requires access to your cloud account, which you probably haven't got set up yet. And I'm not actually sure how you get it set up - it's usually done by the installer at installation time.
Best thing to do is probably contact givenergy support and see what they advise.
In the meantime, there is a third-party app that can speak to your inverter without requiring the cloud account - https://givenergymonitor.wixsite.com/tutorials - by default it's read-only, but the premium version allows you to control the system too.
Or you can connect to a demo version of the online account - https://givenergy.cloud/login and then 'view demo dashboard'. Not sure if it will help much, but...
There is a "knowledge base" - https://kb.givenergy.cloud/category.php - the 'marketing' and 'end user management' sections might be of interest.
There are some youtube videos - there's an official channel at https://www.youtube.com/@givenergy but I'm not sure that's for you. In fact, the chap they've now got doing those has his own channel, and he's done some videos about the system - you might find some of those interesting. (He's mostly about EV's, but givenergy solar is another of his interests.)
https://www.youtube.com/@ElectricVehicleMan/playlists and then look at the 'eco home' videos.
Polar-ESS is a new sub brand.
the app and givenergy.cloud portal need a 'login' set up by the installer for you to be able to access the inverter and battery.
Hmm... Just realised there's a hurdle to overcome - the inverter needs access to your broadband via WiFi, and the password is stored on the inverter. The inverter does offer its own WiFi access point, for configuration, but that should have been secured.
Ideally, you'd be able to ask previous owner for details, but they probably won't know.
The WiFi is actually done by a usb dongle. It might be possible to plug it into a pc, configure it there, then plug it back into the inverter. Or maybe givenergy can advise how to reset the WiFi credentials, or even just give you a new dongle? Not sure.

There's a reset button on the dongle (behind a rubber bung if it's a Gen 1, Gen 2 or 3 I think it's just a button)
This puts the dongle back to defaults with it's own open access point to allow configuring it to your new WiFi.
hoggy I've just seen in the WiFi setup guide that you have to hold it for 15s to reset it? (Then wait 30 minutes)
