Hi all.
I've been a new customer of Givenergy for almost a week, and loving the potential already...! Haven't sorted my export tariff out yet, but that's another story!

My question is about battery management. I opted for a system that'll switch over should we ever get a power cut which is a fab idea - however, if the system DOES switch over - how would I know, apart from checking physically? It'd be great if the app notified me so that I could effectively manage the battery power and limit the amount of draw, to conserve energy (not knowing how long the cut will last).

We've had a few 'mini' cuts recently which wouldn't normally be a concern - but I have a large heat source pump - which practically drains the battery every morning heating the home.

Just a thought: Does anyone else think it'd be a good software update?

Unfortunately there isn't a way of doing this currently in the Givenergy app. It would make a useful addition, agree. You can do it with Home Assistant and integrating your inverter to HA, but that's probably a step too far for your first week!

There is the ability to add enhancement suggestions to the app but in my experience they just go into a black hole. You could try emailing givenergy support

I would be keen for the same thing for similar reasons. I have used the 'feedback' function for a feature suggestion but haven't heard anything back. I might do the BMS 10 update tomorrow in case that has any new features.

Is the power failure change over a 'no break' change or is there a momentary break? My router and alarm system run through mains charged batteries and are true no break systems. If the system has a momentary mains-battery switchover then your oven or microwave clocks might trip. Then you have a changeover indication.

Roy124 Although with an AIO with its 20ms cut-over that might not be enough to reset the microwave/oven clocks?

CW its imperceptible for the lights and most appliances, but it does reset my oven clock.

JasonF Interesting - I'm sadly am waiting for slight "larger" 100mA trip as the gateway usually trips or will take 30 seconds or so before it cuts in so I haven't really seen the things working with a pretty quick cut-over

How long have you been waiting? And what is the delay caused by?

PianSom The problem has been noticed for about 6-8 weeks now (really only became apparent when we had a power cut and we were up rather than asleep!!). Delay currently is trying to get installer out to check/diagnose the problem. We have had two visits so far - one to check the earthing, the second a couple of weeks ago to do a deeper dive. My tripping however seems variable. I was able to demonstrate to the installer the thing failing, but also, when we were switching the load breaker off, there would be times when the breaker would not trip, but the AIO would take a while to cut-over, and then there were also times where the system worked perfectly so that is not helping things

However, I am fairly convinced this is an earth leakage problem from reading on this forum , and some other checks GE did over the phone with me, and the solution seems to be to put in a bigger breaker (100mA trip), but of course the discussion revolves around who should pay for it.

CW In addition to having EPS set to On, which is something you can see and control in the portal, there is another hidden setting called "0 second EPS countdown", which I believe your installer can set in addition to GE. Even though you cannot see this setting in the portal, if it is changed, that change WILL appear in the portal AIO log

T-M Yes, those settings are correct - they have been checked a couple of times now! As I mentioned above, there were a few times the other week when the installer was out where the Gateway cut-over seamlessly, and then others where it either tripped or took a while to do it

CW I have posted elsewhere, but for completeness on this thread, the tripping was caused by one of the wires into the AIO breaker in the gateway not being tightened enough as far as I can tell. The GE engineer came out too a look at stuff and just before he finished he just tightened all the breaker screws. All bar one (on the AIO breaker) was a very small wrist turn - the AIO took quite a few turns before the screw was on tight... and since then it has never tripped
