Battery Red Light Error - Again?

So on the 2nd June I lost the Master and Slave Battery with red light errors and I manually re-started them and resolved the issue by getting them back on line.

I e-mailed support and as I was on BMS 3012 they said I needed to update to solve the problem - not that they said what the problem was - but hey you are not on latest BMS so step one update - 2 days later and after lots of messing around with the USB drives inside the batteries I am on 3068 as they could not get it to update to 3015.

So today the batteries went into red error state again - great solar day and they had recharged to 100%.

So again manually turned off the batteries and re-started them and inverter and all looks to be OK.

I have contacted support but I don't expect much...

No audit trail of why the batteries went to red light and no indication that it won't happen again?

Very odd - at least re-starting them seems to get them working again...

The Master Battery today has gone to Red Light and there was a BMS Over Voltage at maybe the same time.

The App can not see the battery and shows it at 0% but it is in fact full and it seems the error might have happened at the time I filled it to 100%?

Another e-mail to support - Something is not right - The App shows the same battery showing 0% early this morning again after getting to 100%. Jumped to 100% at 5:41am so maybe it had a fault early morning and cleared before I got up...

All very odd...

Another day another charge to full and again Master battery is showing on App as 0% but is actually full.

Red status error light on master battery but green on the slave battery.

7pm the master battery came back on line and green light. Not sure how it resolved itself no messages..

Off line for around 4 hours. No idea why...

I'm not sure I had the same problem but a couple of months ago, once I had enough solar to fully charge the batteries every day, I had some BMS under voltage notifications and red lights on the batteries which cleared itself after some time. I think the under voltage puts the battery into an error status shown by the red lights but that after the discharge current dies away and the temperature of the battery drops the system decides the battery is usable again and shows green. (I may have shut down the battery and restarted it - can't remember now). I also had an unscheduled battery calibration.

I contacted support about the notifications, the unscheduled calibration and the apparent sudden drop in charge shown in the app from 100% to 0% which I think coincided with the red lights. They upgraded me to firmware 3015 (and my inverter firmware to D0.204-A0.204) and then did a very slow calibration at 1/3rd current which took 20 hours. Since this was done my 2 batteries have worked very well and remained close to each other in charge and discharge. No more notifications, strange calibrations or red lights.

I suggest you talk this through with support. Calibration was initiated by them and they set the charge and discharge power registers to 1000W to achieve the slow calibration. Of course YMMV.

Windy Miller thanks it sounds plausible and again this morning the Master battery has gone red just after charging to full.

I can't see any untoward values and rather than rebooting it I am waiting to see if it turns green again and at what point.

I will be in touch with support tomorrow.

The last calibration they did seemed to fail and I got no explanation on why. I couldn't get 3015 to load ok via the USB drives. Yet did get 3068 firmware on them.

Actually just checked and seems Master has been found again...

A quick update I have spent the morning opening up the batteries to try the 3015 update and it worked.

I asked support to send the file zipped and maybe that made the difference compared to earlier this month when it failed.

4 hours of recalibration and I will now monitor the system.

I did notice that during the recalibration the 5.2 Master got to 100% sooner than the 2.6 which took a bit longer.

Anyway let's see if I get any further Red Lights of error after charging the batteries.

M_J If you still have problems you've still got the long slow calibration to try. 20 hours! It gave me under and over volt notifications during the calibration (to be expected as it probes the limits) but none since in more than 2 months.

The one significant difference in our systems is that my 2 batteries are the same size (5.2KWh) but you have a 5.2 and a 2.6 I think?

Windy Miller yes. 5.2 and a 2.6 I think the inverter software is not great at controlling multiple batteries. But that is just a feeling based on snippets of conversation read here.

Anyway a peak day of solar ahead and I will be monitoring each string at the height of the day to try and work out how the panels are performing 13 or so years on...
