Change my Internet supplier and have been unable to update the dongle to the new connection. I’ve tried three different routers with different SSID and even reset it back to defaults.
I followed the instructions and even got a friend who is a network technician to try it as well but it just wont connect and just keeps flashing blue and allowing you to connect to directly connect to it via its hotspot.
Has anyone else has this, or Im I missing something?
Do you know the address of the dongle/inverter? If not can you do a IP scan to find out where on your network it is?
Failing that can you put the dongle into a USB socket on your PC and do the set up from there?
I can log into it no problem, as its broadcasting its own network and going to 10.10.100.254.
But when I scan for an SSID and enter all the details for the new network and restart it, it just fails to connect. I’ve tried three different SSID and AP’s, I even setup another network using a hotspot on my phone and even that failed to connect after going to Device Management - Select Restart.
When it restarts it just keep flashing and when I connect to it, I can see that it’s saved all the details for the new network but it just doesn't connect ☹. I wish they just had a RJ45 connection.
Are the WiFi networks 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz? AFAIK the dongle only supports 2.4Ghz.
Is the new router so new that it supports WiFi WPA3 security as well as WPA2, and is configured to enforce WPA3 only?
Not sure if this only applies to 5GHz or 2.4 GHz as well.
The GivEnergy WiFi dongle may not support WPA3, only WPA2.
Simon_C This, the GivEnergy dongle does not yet support WPA3 and didn't like WPA2/WPA3 mode on my router either, had to be WPA2 only.
The GE knowledge base has a document for WiFi comms guide Feb22.
One troubleshooting statement is as follows:-
'WE and WF serial number dongles are 2.4 GHz, WZ serial number dongles are 2.4 and 5 GHz.'
The comments on WPA3 support are spot on. Mine's actually set up on an SSID with no encryption or authentication whatsoever. The WLAN is, however locked so that only the dongle's MAC address can associate to it.
It's a shame that the dongles haven't kept up with current standards.
mrand31 I was told a firmware update will be available sometime to add WPA3 support. That was a while ago. I have devices like like smart appliances on my 2.4 network and anything needing decent speed on my 5ghz. But I would like the added security on both really.
We avoid using the 2.4Ghz network now. Only the 5Ghz. Leave the old 2.4 for the smart (or not so smart) devices. Sky router can have different SSIDs for the 2 frequencies, so its easy to enforce one over the other
Thanks, its WPA2 and dual 2.4 and 5ghz networks. I’ve tried connecting the dongle on the 2.4ghz using Unifi AP's. it can see it when it scans, and asks for the password when selecting it, after entering the password and then restarting the device it still fails to connect and continues to flash blue ☹
Disable WMM mode if you have that option on the router, it caused the same problems for me as you describe.
