Octopus Cosy - Wonder Watt or My Energy Optimiser or Monitor for GE Inverter App

I am planning ahead for autumn / winter now I have a hybrid Alpha ASHP. Link below but in essence, a small ASHP along with a gas boiler.

I have a gen 1 GE hybrid 3.6 inverter along with a 9.5kWh battery.

If I go with Octopus Cosy, which now benefits from 3 low price energy, I would be looking to charge the battery during these 3 windows. Currently, my gen 1 has only 1 timed charge slot available. I was thinking about going down the Predbat and HA using a Raspberry Pi but thinking this may not be required considering all I'm really needing is a means to automate 3 periods with cheaper energy to charge the battery.

I would use the ASHP via battery or the gas boiler during off peak cheaper periods.

Also, means to discharge if I also have Octopus Fixed at 15p. I suppose Predbat would do this better in between the 3 cheaper periods to predict usage and discharge before the next period.

I've had a look at Wonder Watt, My Energy Optimiser and also the Monitor for Givenergy Inverter app and still unsure which (or all) of these best fits what I am looking for. I believe all 3 will do this? Has anyone got experience of which is best to use?

Toki if you have a raspberry pi, you could also just use the API to schedule the charging. But that's not terribly different from wonderwatt, and relies on network being up.

Local control doesn't need the whole heavyweight infrastructure of home assistant.

Surely you'd use ashp during cheap rate, and battery or gas during peak rate?

DD yes, sorry. Badly worded. Meant to say that during normal or peak periods, I could use ASHP via battery or gas boiler, depending on which is cheaper once losses are factored in as rates will change in Q3 / Q4.

During off peak, would use the grid.

Toki I have a gen1 inverter and 9.5kw battery, and was on Cosy last winter as I have an A2A heat pump, and was just using the GE app until late in Jan when I paid the one off £10 for the fully usable version of the 'Monitor app' by Ribikcube. Great app, and you can set it up how you want. Will be no trouble on the 3 dip Cosy this year.
You need an old android phone or tablet or a cheap one off fleabay. Works really well.

I had a look at the brochure... says it automatically chooses gas or heat-pump based on tariff information, but if it doesn't know about your battery, it can't really make a fully-informed decision. I wonder to what extent it can be overridden, or gamed.

DD Unfortunately, it's not a smart device. It relies on programming the electricity and gas prices in manually for 3 time periods. It's an Italian system with F1, F2 and F3 for their specific market. Alpha are in the process of updating this but will have to be put in manually. All the system then does is decide which is cheaper, based on the price differences. For example, if it calculates SCOP is 3.5 at that given time and temperature, as long as electric is <3.5 times gas, system will use the ASHP. If >3.5 it will use the boiler.

Toki yes, I assumed that. But with a battery, your electric price is non-trivial to calculate. During the cheap periods, it's easy.But then for at least a couple of hours afterwards, you're running from battery, and that's maybe 15p. But exactly when it switches over to draw from grid will depend on how cold it is.
For spring and autumn you can probably just assume it always runs from battery (outside the cheap periods), but in coldest months, battery might only run for a few hours from end of cheap period, then from grid.
I guess you could probably encapsulate that if you had 8 or 9 price slots per day, only having to reconfigure it at the start of each season.

I use Wonderwatt for nightly charging - you should be able to set up 3 seperate schedules for the three slots. The one thing I do like about WW is that it interrogates your battery for SOC and calculates an appropriate charge rate to get to the specified SOC (rather than the battery being done at whatever the default charge rate is set at). As @DD says it does rely on network being available, but TBH it is really straight forward to set up and you can then forget about it
