Hi - just finished a new build with 4kw of solar panels installed but not connected. I was planning a Givenergy setup with inverter and 9.5kW hr of batteries, but the plant room wiring etc assumes inside installation of the battery. I am now being told that because of the PAS regulations which came into effect in April that the battery has to be elsewhere, which will mean its out of Wifi range. The plant room is wired with a heat / fire alarm but is plywood faced. Is this true ? Any suggestions?

PAS documents are recommended best practise and not mandatory unless adopted as full standards. You can download PAS 63100:2024 for free from BSI just by filling in the download form. There is also a GE article on it here.

There is also a really good summary on the Marley website

Another suggestion for your installer would be (as I had done). Put fibre board on the wall where the battery will go, this offers a high level of protection especially if you have plywood walls.

This is what mine looks like in the garage wall.

Thats a very nice neat looking installation, although I went one stage further with the 12mm cement board and filled the joints and screw holes then painted the whole wall along with porcelain tiles for the battery to stand on.
