Apologies if this isn't new, it came to me overnight ;-)

You own an AIO and gateway.
Imagine Christmas day the dinner is cooked and eaten. Karaoke underway and the new game console is swallowing the last couple of watt hours from the battery. Power-cut! No solar generation and by the time there is any the battery will be completely depleted so the solar inverter is dead.

That's ok the gateway has a flying lead with a plug attached. Because the grid has been isolated, the plug is now enabled so you plug it into your V2L in the EV.
The V2L provides a trickle charge to the battery (2kW?) and will allow the solar inverter to stay alive 'til morning. Probably enough for low house loads too.
When power returns, the gateway waits for V2L to be disconnected and then returns to normal operation.

Is this 'V2G light' a viable add-on to the gateway? I want a free one if this idea is new!

When V2G becomes mainstream it will seriously disrupt the home storage battery market in my view. Massive amount of storage that you have already on your drive already

So the car’s 240v power outlet is the EPS?

I’m kind of in two minds about this. V2L sounds great 99% of the time but Sod’s Law dictates that a power cut would happen just as you got home from visiting relatives on Christmas Day and the car is empty and you’re off early Boxing Day to see someone else and need a full car charge. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I guess the cars battery is massive compared to home batteries/ overnight home usage, so it’s ok.

I’m pretty sure the rest of the time it’s the future though.

I was watching Ruben from Artisan Electrics on YouTube the other day trying to get a Jaguar car battery from a wrecked Jaguar iPace connected as a home storage battery. Quite interesting idea. 70kW of home storage battery probably for way less than £10k for the wreck. It did look like a fair challenge though to be honest trying to get the battery talking again.

I think that just an old (or unroadworthy) EV with a big battery could be the cheapest way to do things if you’ve got the space and don’t mind having an old banger on the drive that you never intend to drive again but has a good battery.

So basically the Generator input on a Victron Multiplus or Sunsynk inverter?
You would only realistically want to charge the AIO standalone, as any backfeed from another source to the V2L would be game over for it - PV inverter would be best left out the equation as its output is almost uncontrollable for load matching.

Can't, for now at least, see manufacturers of BEVs or BEV chargers falling over themselves to give us reliable V2L systems. They have altogether bigger issues.

Pete UK I have a mate in Scotland. He bought an old 2014 Nissan Leaf with a 24 kWh battery for £4500: MOT fail needed some work on the mechanics which he is working on.

The battery was down to 75% efficiency (18kWh). Charges to 100% every night he is using that to power his home via the Chademo and also export

So a daily run around (when fixed) and a decent battery powering his house.

mjkelly5a presumably cost at least £2k for the chademo DC bidirectional chargepoint (unless he got it through one of the trials).

Hmm. I hadn't considered that. I'm sure the good people at GE could resolve it and produce an add-on product for the AIO for say £50 :-)

I just watched a youtube video on the Sigenergy system which apparently allows V2G (and V2L? probably not) to charge the home battery via the device's CCS charger. I still reckon there must be a simple upgrade possible to the GE Gateway which could allow similar. GE will need to respond to this competition so it'll be interesting to see what they come up with. I don't need 35kW CCS charging which rapidly discharges a home battery into the EV but charging from the EV battery is very interesting.

Ive tried to gain interest in using the solar input which is AC to charge but everyone says no due too it being grey energy and classed as a generator which it isnt as its only redistributing grid energy back to grid (even though many will dump battery back to grid which in itself is grey energy)

Course sods law it now happens as my next car wont have V2L 🙂
