Can you set up an automatic alert when the battery is full?
Battery full alert email
Not directly through GE, but you could through Home Assistant automations
Hi
I only had the system commissioned this week and am knew to this, is there a specific area I can find the method to do this?
Thanks
Petet
Peter. What are you trying to achieve and why do you need to know when the battery is full.
There might be preconfigured solutions rather than you having to go down the full HA route
As far as I know there isn’t any preconfigured solutions but there are scripts that can poll the inverter data that if you were minded to, could be adapted to generate an email.
You’d need the PC or Raspberry Pi or whatever you run the script on to be on all the time unless you start down the cloud computing route - much the same as running Home Assistant
Probably Home Assistant would be easier as its got the integration to the inverter and writing an automation is reasonably straight forward

Hi Steve
So during the day I can use excess energy to charge my car, by manual plug-in
Peter.howell You could use a Zappi charger to do this automatically. However, it's more cost effective to charge overnight on an EV tariff such as Intelligent Octopus Go and then export your excess solar to the grid - currently 15p per unit with Octopus.

There's a case for not waiting until the battery is full: a car has a minimum power level before it can charge, whereas the battery will accept even very low power excess solar, so it makes sense to charge the car when the sun is at its highest, and save space in the battery for later, after solar has dropped below minimum for car.
But I found solar charging to be rather more trouble than its worth... when clouds go by, it switches to drawing from grid, etc. There are several tariffs which will pay more for daytime export than it costs for overnight import. That said, if you have a brand new solar system, perhaps you haven't yet got your export MPAN, in which case you wouldn't be getting paid for export yet anyway. (If it's a new system, I assume you don't have a FIT arrangement, which is another reason for self-consumption rather than export.)
