Just changed to fibre broadband and app/portal not picking up any data from the inverter. Had a look at previous discussions but not helping. We don't have a dongle just a wireless aerial and we are not able to change the SSID / password on the new router. What do I do?
New Router, no data
lisap66 Obviously depends which discussions you've seen. Do you still have the old router? You might be able to power that up (no need to connect it to the internet), and get enough access to the inverter/dongle to reconfigure it.
[I'm a little surprised you can't change the SSID/password - if you post the model, someone might be able to help. Though it depends whether 'not able' means it's technically not possible, or that there are other reasons which means you don't want to do it.]
Thanks DD - we do still have the old router - how would I reconfigure the inverter if we were to power it up? I can't see anything on the portal or app that enables this?
(The new router is a Nokia Beacon 6 but there's a sticker on it that says "Do not reset. Chargeable if removed")
lisap66 Google search for GivEnergy KB dongle. It will give you all the options on connecting/resetting.
One useful trick, if you can, use a laptop to try to connect to the inverter. I find android phones connect to the inverter WiFi and then decide to connect back to a better network before you've finished configuring it. Laptops seem a little less likely to do that.
lisap66 the inverter is trying to connect to the WiFi that the old router provided. So if you turn on, it can connect to it. Then you can connect phone or pc to that old router, speak to the router that way, and configure it to use the new router.
Safest would be to configure the dongle's built in access point - otherwise configuring WiFi is a one-shot deal, and if you get the details wrong you won't be able to do it again this way.
lisap66 I think you will find the dongle is internal to the inverter. Can you confirm what type of inverter you have?
r/e your new router, you should have on the back of the router an admin password which you can use to reconfigure the new router’s wifi name (SSID) and password to match your old one. This might be the easiest way to get your inverter connected to the new wifi.
The sticker is just warning you not to do a factory reset of the router as that will then stop it working with your fibre broadband, and is presumably stuck over the reset button on the router. Changing the wifi SSID and password is not the same and you should still be able to do this.
If you don’t have the password with the router then try contacting your fibre broadband provider for it.
geoffreycoan OK - the inverter is a GIV-HY5.0?
We have got an admin password but can't login to the router either at the moment - we also have all of our other devices set up with the new router details so if we change the SSID, I guess we have to change all the details on all the other devices?
I have a support ticket raised with GivEnergy now (& one with the broadband provider!)
lisap66 I think you can connect to the "dongle" aka management website via a USB cable (type A to type A I think). Once connected then reconfigure it as required onto the new router?
TX200
With some help from GivEnergy Support, I think we have now fixed this! Now though, our battery decided it wanted charging overnight (from 65%!!) but I have no idea why.......!
