Will somebody please switch the sun back on?

Yesterday 5th September was my lowest daily generation this year.
Even now at 9am a day later the SolarEdge has just reverted to night mode it's so damned dark!

I thought it was quite a bright day. I had my diabetic retinopathy exam in the morning and went around for most of the day with pupils the size of dinner plates. I was quite surprised when I realised that the battery hadn't charged at all 😮

Icarus 1.92KWh yesterday. Pretty poor but not my lowest this year. Was 0.8KWh on 2/1.

My lowest since install last July is 500Wh on 7 and 19 Dec 23. 1100Wh on 5 Sept 24.

Hold on, thats been most of the summer... I've imported more days than I've exported... considering the first year we had solar i went literally mid April through to mid Sept barely touching the grid.

Shows a lot of change in the weather really.

It’s been my lowest year overall for production since panels were installed in 2012, around 10% down on typical production across Jan-Aug, although August itself was one of the best months in all that time.
September generation has been very poor so far.

My 8.9kWp array is currently generating 165w!

I thought Wednesday and Thursday were dull days but today is even worse at just 3kWh and yet yesterday it managed 39kWh

Last few days have been awful, no sun and agile pricing expensive! Since Monday I've made 65p in export but had to charge the battery at £5 for the same period ☹️

Iguana Still in profit (export £>import £)every day so far this month, but some bad days, the 2nd 29p export, the 5th 13p export. Fortunately my generation is keeping the Agile imports at bay

So far this Sept, I have had 4 days with import £>export £ but all less than 50 p.
I am still £7 in profit.
However my Sept generation so far is down 50% compared to last Sept (347 kWh down to 175 kWh)!
My lowest days have been Sept 5th and Sept 7th (both 4.4 kWh)
My best has been Sept 6th with 30 kWh.

Weather forecast suggests that generation should pick up 🤞
... and generation fell during 2nd half of last Sept.

5th Sept was terrible here in Gloucestershire too.
At least yesterday (14th Sept) was nice.

Today started well, then at 10:30am the weather gods turned the sun off.

You must have been mis-sold Solar PV panels which are ineffective at night. Had you opted for Lunar PV, or a mix of both then your overall generation figures would probably be better ( depending on the phase of the moon and cloud cover. ☀️🌖

I was intruiged to know the ratio between ( System Production / kWp ) for other sites in nearby postcodes on good & bad days.

In my neck of the woods, June 2nd was a wonderfully sunny day and Nov 3rd was one of the worst.

My ratio was around 6.5 on the best day and 0.16 on the worst and my site has 5.666 kWp according to SolarEdge modelling.

A nearby much larger 21.96kWp site had supprisingly similar ratios: 7.0 & 0.16 respectively for best & worst days.

This does give me some comfort that my system is operating as expected under the assumption that the weather conditions are pretty much the same in nearby post codes.

I would be curious to know what sort of range other people get for the ratio of production over kWp on best & worst days.

I have 14.4kW of panels in total across a FIT and two GivEnergy arrays.

November 3rd I generated 6.96kWh so a ratio of 0.48 and June 2nd (not quite my best day of the year) 69.54kWh so ratio 4.83.
Best day was 25th June, 82.77kWh, ratio 5.75. On really sunny days I overload my local grid, pushing the supply voltage up so much that two of the inverters keep on shutting off and on again which caps by generation.

Here's mine:

I have a 9.75kWp array, comprising 25 panels across E, S and W orientations. 5 kW Solar edge inverter, just capable of handling this array size (x2 in spec). I get some clipping and I reckon that I could get up to 6-6.5 kW with a larger inverter.
Optimisers on each panel.

• Worst day has been December 27th 2023. I generated 0.375 kWh so a ratio of 0.038.
  I have ignored Feb 8th 2024 when I got no generation with heavy snow covering all panels.
• Best day has been June 14th 2023: 54.135 kWh so ratio 5.55.

Last November, I had 2 days with just under 2 kWh.
This November, I have already had 2 days under 2 kWh and it is only 4th November.

opps was looking at wrong graph. ive had 30kwh on my giv system and 24kw on my victron. still crap

I find it hard to judge when I find things like this in my graphs! Not sure where GE think my solar was going from 10 til 2

I generated 150Wh for the whole day, that is the lowest I've ever seen from my 3kw array.

Unfortunately this is to be expected this time of year. Yesterday, I recorded 0kWh from my panels which has only happened a few times before. My monthly generation so far is 25kWh which is on target to be the lowest Novemebr since I installed them 4 years ago. I have tended to get 55 or so kWh in November, but will be lucky to make 40 this year

Yesterday wasn’t my lowest ever, I generated a very “healthy” 2.26kWh, beating the Solcast forecast by some way.
9th November was slightly worse, 2.23kWh. This is off 14.6kW of panels. 195kWh so far in November

geoffreycoan Hmmph.... I managed a staggering 790wH yesterday!!!

CW I’m lucky enough to have a lot of panels. We have a 4kW FIT array on the rear West of the house and when I was getting the GivEnergy battery and inverter I decided I’d might as well maximise the number of panels up on the roof whilst I was already paying for the scaffolding. In hindsight this was a super-decision as the “payback” on panels is far better than for batteries. Means I export enough in the summer to pay for the entire winter consumption.
