New App Wishlist Thread

Rather than clutter the other thread it probably makes sense to put a wishlist together whilst the app is still the bulk of the Devs focus at the moment.

Mine would be:

• Home Screen Widgets (which would hopefully appease the people who don't like the new quick menu at the bottom) whilst maintaining the "1 click" simplicity.

• Time limits for quick menu (i,e Charge for 1/2, 1, 2 hours...)

• Solar Forecast shown in App (perhaps filling the tab void in the middle if the quick menu moves?)

• Light/Dark Modes

• In Home Display Mode (with Pin for changing settings) - App looks great in landscape as an IHD but little fingers can cause havok!

• Battery "Time to Empty" at current rate.

As an side it would be odd to not update the portal with things the app does and it can't so:
Pause / Discharge Now / Charge now in the portal
Peak Power Values

Good idea keeping this separate. One of mine expands on your Home Display Mode suggestion, to have that with an option to keep the display on indefinitely please.

You can set that in the settings of the device. I have an old Iphone SE as an In Home display. Works well, bar a bit of screen resizing issues

TheDragon (GivEnergy) On the Amazon Fire 7 that I'm using for this, the maximum timeout in the system is 30 minutes before the display goes off, unless the app uses the "Keep display from turning off" permission.

hoggy my pet hate is that the battery state is shown as a percentage only and not how many kW remain.This makes no sense to me as the charge going in and out is measured in watts, so this makes calculations of time to fill / empty more difficult. Would not be so bad if like you mention, the app worked it out for you however!

Firstly, may I say its great to see the produce receiving development. The greatest development for me was the recent upgrade to the 10s refresh while at home.

1. light/dark modes please
   Yellow on white not easy to see on mobile screen.
2. Home Dashboard - prefered previous single touch on icons for input/output data rather than sending you to another fancy screen with the info on. Simple concise over flashy for me.
3. Increase refresh rate in "Away" mode, 1 or 2 minute refresh would be a big improvement if not too big an overhead.

Another vote for dark mode.

Another dark mode vote here, keep blinding myself at night checking on my battery status/usage 😆

CARLMW I've raised that one before - all the data required is technically there to calculate a realtime value in kWh after all, and in fact it's most likely using that data to calculate a percentage.
I second having a kWh/%-age option in the app.
Also absolutely second having a dark mode.

I was going to say add a battery percentage graph, but I eventually found it 🤣

Imported energy stats split into peak and off peak

stevelewis That'd be an interesting one. Would it need to be able to connect to your supplier to get your tariff's peak/offpeak timings, or have a user configured setting?
Actually if you could set times and rates it would be able to show you figures in cash equivalent.

MRich I'm using this functionality already on pvoutput.org, where the timings, rates and standing charge can be entered manually. I'd imagine it would be possible to pull the info in from Octopus or some other suppliers. A split between peak and off-peak grid consumption in the energy flow report would also be informative.

stevelewis Absolutely agree. Definitely possible and if GE can get this right they could have the entire household ecosystem running through their app.

Let me select the inverter that I want to get data about, rather than just grouping them all together.

Discharge power option in the same menu as discharge mode.
I assume it’s not on the app at all as I can’t find it.

New app is on the Apple store with dark mode.

anglefire yeah just seen that, I’ll scrub that one off.
Also local IP setting available for those who were struggling with auto discovery.

Some bug feedback about the scheduled discharge full power & dynamic modes being reversed is that this will be getting sorted on the next release.

Yes I saw the local IP address setting but didn’t mention it as I wasn’t sure if it wasn’t in the first version as I haven’t had to worry about it

anglefire it would be handy if the app displayed the local IP address here if it had managed to find it, not just 192.168.1.1

Persistent scaling in views. Example: selecting battery from main view always displays 1 hour of data, even if I last set the view to 24hrs of data.

as an owner of a 'plant' ie two inverter/batteries, it's not clear what 'battery %' refers to - is it a combined number or just one? if the latter, is there a toggle?

hoggy Have you gotten manual IP discovery to work in the new version? I've entered the IP of the dongle but app still isn't finding it.

chrisdev Seems to work ok on mine (although I put it in after auto discovery so maybe it's still running off that.)
Note: I think you now have to click local or server button at the top of the main screen as you can switch between them. Think thats a step backwards personally but maybe a bug)

ChrisRowe under settings and preferences. When you tick the manual ip click in the box with the ip already populated (probably 192.168.1.1) and add the one it really is.

anglefire yep, I’ve found that, but where do I find the actual IP address for the dongle?

ChrisRowe ah. You will need to look on your router probably and look for a new device. The host name will be something beginning with wf or similar.

Easiest way is to find something in the devices list and try and browse to the ip. It will be obvious if it’s the right one as you will get a webpage come up.

Well, thanks for listening about dark mode, trouble is, I have to switch my whole phone to dark mode to get it, which is not what I want! Can dark mode be switchable within the app, for that app only?

wilfleek Second this! I was about to post to ask how to set the app to dark mode - question answered but also not my preference (phone to light, app do dark please).
