Hi guys, can i use the givenegy schedule for charging the car overnight to benefit for the 7p rate and not use the octopus schedule?…..if not does active plug and charge need to be on or off not to interfere with octopus…cheers in advance
Octopus
Ade p Hi, welcome to the forum.
I assume you're talking about the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff. Officially, yes, in exchange for the better rates, you give Octopus control over when the car charges. But many say they never bother with smart charging, and just schedule manually, Some people have reported receiving emails from Octopus reminding them that they are supposed to smart-chage.
I assume you have a GE chargepoint and a car that's compatible with Octopus ? If you are smart-charging, Octopus will tell the car to start/stop charging, so the chargepoint should be always ready to supply charge. If you choose not to smart-charge, I'm not sure to what extent you'll be fighting Octopus over charging.
Hi, yes IO tariff. And i had this up and running but there was an issue with a fuse that needed changing and now i cant get octopus to control the charge.
So i thought if i took octopus out of the way and just used Give it would be less complicated. I tried to charge the battery and the car on the cheap rate at the same time and it didnt like it🙄
Ade p I have heard that car-based integration can be a bit hit-and-miss, with some car APIs being a bit flakey. All I can suggest is unregistering then re-registering your car, perhaps (though I guess that risks not being able to re-register, and getting thrown off the tariff).
I assume you've been onto Octopus support...
DD hi yes, waiting for reply but i will re-register i think…cheers
Ade p FWIW Octopus does have some competition now - EON NextDrive and Tomato Energy are cheaper than IOG, and don't have the extra nonsense of requiring Octopus to schedule the charging.

I think the way IOG works, when you plug in it immediately starts charging, and Octopus use this to detect that you have pugged in, and stop the charge and calculate a schedule. So you might be fighting against Octopus.
(In a similar way, if I change the mode on my Zappi chargepoint to something other than eco+, Octopus know, and immediately put it back. So I have to boost through Octopus, rather than by trying to override things.)
Gotcha ,,,thanks
