App Automations

Afternoon All,

My Dad has stopped using wonderwatt, he wasn't keen on the subscription model.

I have been relucant to setup a HASS+Predbat for him as I suspect it will cause more problems for me in the long term 😆

We put him back on the GivEnergy automation "Eco Mode", but the automation hasn't been running, I just had a look in the app and I am wondering if there is a problem.

Shouldn't the app be telling us the current rate and the average cost?

I saw there is a smart tariff system on the web portal, wondering if I should go through that instead with him? (Long term I can see me building him a Pi with HASS+Predbat).

DD Looks like Agile from the graph above. Agile is peaking tonight to 50p in the 18:30 slot

matttheotter depends on how well the battery capacity covers the house load and how much you/your dad wants to optimise using Agile.

There are new beta versions of smart tariffs in the GivEnergy portal. Some people have tried them, I have no experience of using them though.

Octopus R&D is still free I believe but there were some reliability issues a while back. No recent experience and I don’t know of anyone using it in anger.

If you want a simple life you could just program a battery charge overnight between 2am to 6am. It’s maybe not always the absolutely cheapest slots at those times on Agile but it is pretty consistently cheaper than the standard variable tariff

Otherwise you are going towards Home Assistant and either roll your own or automations based on Predbat.

Or swap to a less complex tariff that is easier to automate in the GivEnergy app/portal.

geoffreycoan I think we'll be tariff swapping when the EV turns up, most likely intelligent go which will do away with all these issues 😃

geoffreycoan it failed again last night, there is something not quite right with the automation, should I have it set to Solar & Battery?

matttheotter I’m sorry, I don’t know, I have no personal experience of the GivEnergy tariff automations. They used to be a unique selling point of the GivEnergy system but I haven’t heard of anyone using them for some time - I’m not sure they even work any more which might be what you are finding.

But, if you go into editing the portal there is “Smart Tariff” and “Smart Tariff (Beta)”. There are a couple of people on this forum that are using the latter (new) one I think - have you tried that version?

If its not working or not working as expected then best to call GivEnergy as its their product and they should be able to say what state it is in
