During a typical charging period - 02:00-05:00 - I see on the Cloud portal that 'grid import' is -3.072 kW, 'battery charge' is -2.841 kW and 'load power' is 103W. This implies that 4% of imported energy is lost in conversion from AC to stored energy.

Is this level of efficiency expected? What efficiency is expected during discharge to the grid?

4% is quite good charging efficiency if the figures are correct.
Other people have measured round trip efficiency and its between 10-20% losses on conversion in and out of the battery and to power the inverter.
I personally assume about 15% overall

If its the portal then it excludes charge/discharge losses. The 4% is the chemical losses in the battery.

Low voltage batteries incur greater conversion losses than the high voltage batteries (AIO basically).

Edit - low voltage battery max charge/discharge then 7.5% each way but more if its exported.
