I want to charge my GivEnergy battery three times a day when my electricity is cheap. I have just been told on the GivEnergy chat line that my inverter is too old to set more than one period but said that there are third party apps that can do it for me but he couldn't recommend one and suggested I ask on this discussion forum. Please can anyone help?

Hi, welcome to the forum. There are some options listed in
https://community.givenergy.cloud/d/5168-octopus-flux-pre-peak-top-up/18

One I forgot is the Octopus R&D lab - free, but can be flakey.

The Android app I mentioned is https://givenergymonitor.wixsite.com/tutorials - free for basic use, but requires a (very small) premium to access features like scheduling. Note that for scheduling, it needs to run 24/7 on a dedicated Android device, such as an old tablet.

myEO is https://myenergyoptimiser.co.uk/
wonderwatt is https://www.wonderwatt.com/

Where on the technophile / technophobe scale do you sit ?

The portal Smart Tariff Beta will do it for you if you are an Octopus Tariff.
It only uses the first slot.

DD is spot on with his techno question. I am quite comfortable until I got into this Forum with a whole new set of acronyms. HA and Rabbits are a whole new hole down which I don't want to go.

I use MyEO Mentioned above. Even though it is simple you still need to learn import, export, charge, discharge, solar compensation, charge levels etc.

All is not lost. Richard of MyEO will even set it up for you. I initially only needed 2, now I need 3. With Solar compensation it modifies the charge. So far I have only 3 occasions where it might work since I got it. It was correct on each instance.

I'm a happy My Energy Optimiser user. I am on Agile and MyEO works out and tells the inverter whether to charge or not and whether to use the grid or batteries depending on the battery SoC and rates forecast the next 24 hours.
It's fit and forget and I can't recommend it too strongly.

ask Using our service you can create up to 20 charge or forced discharge (export) slots. Useful if you want to separate and keep certain settings for seasonal schedules.

Plenty of happy users and an active community: https://community.wonderwatt.com

Richard, the CEO, is very hands one, very helpful, and very responsive to questions and suggestions.

One example, the daily lig report arrived but no payload. That was fixed after a report. The log was then 'expert' and over complicated for a quick look. He simplified it. It was then a little too simply. Now it informs of command success and errors.

There are other suggestions I put and he is looking at these.

Yes. Simple, it works and you can interrupt a setting using the GE App. Definitely recommend it.

I looked at a few options and although I am not technophobic, it has to be useable by others in the household.

Octopus R&D just didn't work and Octopus support were so slow.
The GivEnergy Smart tariff plugins lack documentation and GE support said coming soon...
Predbat and HA were too compicated for non tech users.

Currently using WonderWatt+Agile Octopus which covers about 95% of what I do. There is now a subscription to use it but the annual price is okay for the convenience provided (YMMV). WW handles a number of Octopus tariffs and has a handy feature to stop the EV charger emptying the Giv battery into the car. 🙂 Support is pretty good via the online forum.
The only issues I currently have with WonderWatt+Agile are 1) any slots I select between 4:30pm and 11pm get deleted when the new rates are loaded around 4:30pm so I have to remember to login in around 5pm and reselect them. And 2) If an AC battery charge is currently active and extra slots are manually appended, they don't get actioned and can prevent future slots charging.

Bit of a problem then for others in your family. On a wider note, as our homes become smarter, I have smart sockets, a connected security system, security cameras, solar panels and now a connected heating system, will this reduce their sallability to non-techy buyers?

Hopefully, WonderWatt will address these in a future update. The product is undergoing continuous development.

This has been addressed now in the latest release v0.5.949. The detailed release notes can be found here: https://community.wonderwatt.com/d/96-wonder-watt-release-notes

And we now display personalised Solar forecast estimates for today and tomorrow.
