I upgraded by wifi mesh to TP Link Deco XE75 working in AP mode ( connected by ethernet to a BT smarthub) everything is working great other than I have lost connection to the inverter and it refuses to reconnect.
Maybe I am missing a step....
I have logged in directly to the dongle on the WO123456 SSID it is broadcasting.
Logged in, gone to Station mode
selected the new SSID, entered the password., using WPS2 and AES apply
It then prompts me to select reboot.

I get the message rebooting but nothing happens other than invariably the phone or laptop gives up being connected to the inverter and reconnects to my main network.

I have tried powering down the PV and inverter....

This is becoming incredibly frustrating.

AMCM I did exactly the same 2 weeks ago with success using a new Tp Link Deco XE75 to replace my old BT setup. I connected the Deco directly to my new fibre ONT connection so that I didn't have to still use the BT router as a DHCP server.
I set up the wifi using the SSID and password from my old BT router and this ensured that all my wifi connections would be picked up. All were connected except for the GE inverter.
So I went through the same process using the GE wifi guide:

When I got to the security page, I input WPA2-PSK and AES as in the guide.
In the Deco app, WPA2 was shown. I guessed that this was the same as the '-PSK' variety.
Do check that you don't have WPA3 set here or you won't be able to connect.
To find these on the Deco app you need to negotiate:
More/Wi-Fi Settings/2.4 GHz & 5 GHz Network/Advanced/Security.

At stage 5 of the process, was your Wifi network picked up?

Finally, I did still have an issue and found that the GE inverter was still connected to its own local WO SSID.
This SSID was still showing up on my iPhone. I 'forgot' it and the GE inverter was connected to my wifi

I can't believe how much my wifi connectivity has improved throughout the house with the Deco.
Doesn't say much for my old BT Smart hub 2 and wifi disks!

As an aside, although not needed for the GE inverter,

  • Did you also check the IP address that the Deco had set up for the GE inverter?
  • Deco had set up IPs for me under 192.168.68.X
  • My previous router had assigned IPs under 192.168.1.X

This looks a straightforward process but I found that I really had to concentrate at each step.

Rbor, Thank you for your reply.

I get as far as selecting the new SSID and then selecting reboot from the device management on the dongle.... and then nothing happens or the phone/tablet disconnects from the local WO SSID.
That is the frustrating part.

Elsewhere in the house all is good with some trial and error on placing the XE75 discs, new TV supports WIFI 6 hence the change of Wifi mesh.

Do you have a different SSID for your 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks? It is recommended that your 2.4GHz network us unique ie. different from you 5GHz (and 6GHz if you have that too)

I moved to a new ISP and router type on Friday 15/11/24

It was a tedious 70 minute struggle as the laptop, a mere six feet from dongle, kept losing the connection. I suspect the dongle. I turned the 5GHz WiFi OFF on the router and stopped the laptop connecting automatically to WiFi. I then connected to WO123456 searched for the new SSID and applied. Then to device management and restart. Then refresh browser page. Logged off WO113456. Turned 5GHz back ON and logged laptop onto WiFI connect automatically. Sitting in a cold garage for an hour, written down this sounds much slicker than it was.

It is a common problem that devices in a mixed WiFi environment [2.4 and 5 GHz] get confused when setting up a new connection. Turning off the 5GHz can often help (or be the ONLY way to achieve success). It shouldn't be necessary with well designed circuits, but.....

There are a new options on the Android App/Settings to both Update WiFi details and Update the dongle. Both are interesting and may well be useful if there was any instructions for who and how to use. I had so many other things to update that I didn't want to experiment as there was too much else going on. Anyone else tried these?

You may not have connectivity to the new IP address distributed by the router.
The web portal should communicate to the IP on the inverter.
I have an iPhone and I can scan for the IP for local monitoring like this: (may be same on Android).

  1. Open app.
  2. Click on the 3 horizontal bars top left.
  3. Select 'Settings'
  4. Select Local monitoring
  5. See if there is an IP address shown which should match the IP address allocated to the inverter by your decor router. Either was, select 'scan for your inverter'.

No promises but that may push connectivity. Quick to do and may help.

Another this to try.
Get the GE inverter IP allocated from the deco app.

Now ping the IP address to see if you can make contact. You will need to do this from terminal (on mac) or whatever windows uses!
ping -c1 192. 168. X.X

-c1 ensures there is one response only.

Windows 11 and probably later builds of Windows 10 behave much the same as Android does - if you connect to a SSID which has no internet connectivity while another SSID is available which has internet connectivity and has auto-connect checked then it'll switch to that one.

I managed to resolve it !!

after a lot of trial and error.

I used the Giv Installer app, you do not need to login but use the two utilities on the home page. Update Dongle and update Wifi
NOTE, undocumented feature is you have to scroll right to walk through the utility

You log into the dongle wifi and it walks you through, standing next to the dongle.

On the Deco XE75 I activated the IoT network which is 2.4 gHz only and by magic it connected.

Logging into the normal house wifi the Giv energy Cloud is visible.

I found the wifi dongle incredibly unreliable even after the firmware upgrade ( I got a semi reliable workaround setting up a dedicated SSID just for the inverter.. but that was silly). In the end I Ethernet connected the inverter.. problems gone.
