I have a Timed Charge set to top up the battery to 70% in the afternoon, to make sure we don’t need to draw from the grid during the expensive peak period. But if the solar has already charged the battery to higher than 70% (say 80%), it doesn’t use the battery during the Timed Charge period but draws from the grid. It’s as if having a Timed Charge period switches off the battery availability.
I would have expected the battery to be used until it got down to the set charge level (70%), and only then use the grid up to the end of the Timed Charge period.

I think it used to work the way you'd expect, but people complained and they changed it. Can't win. 🤣

HA automations
Farmhouse49 what sort of system do you have, and what firmware? An alternate might be to prevent the battery discharging below 70% before peak time, rather than charging it back up to 70% if it has dropped below. Possibly more efficient if it avoids round-trip losses. However, it doesn't work so well if you expect to drop below 70 earlier in the day, and hope for solar charging to raise it back up.
TX200 Hmmm. If that’s the case perhaps there is little hope for a change, though I can’t at the moment see a scenario where it is better working the way it is.

DD Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, the challenge is that the battery charge before that period could be above or below 70%. One day I may go for a programmable option but not into that as yet.

I'm happy with the status quo - I charge my battery when the grid is cheap, and if the grid is cheap, I prefer to use it rather than the battery.
