Local access good, portal access not?

I’ve just replaced my WiFi dongle as a result of bricking my old one after the recent chipset upgrade debacle.

Using the new dongle, the local access is fine and displays using the app. Accessing via the ‘away’ button on the app or using the cloud portal, still thinks the inverter is offline.

Could anyone give me a steer as to how to correct this, please? Thanks!

It sounds like your inverter is not connecting to the GivEnergy cloud correctly still.

Presumably you have it connected to your local wifi OK as otherwise you wouldn’t get local mode working. It suggests that there maybe part of the wifi dongle configuration that is not correct? Might need GivEnergy advice on this one

Have you had Giv re-associate the new dongle with the portal account?
Otherwise the portal is still looking for data from the old one & the new dongle is just firing data into the abys.
Local control will work in the meantime for viewing on the Giv app and control via rubicube / HA / bbcBasic apps if stuck.

You could change the serial number of your new dongle to the old serial number, then you won't need help. The serial number is stored in a file called MSN.TXT on the dongle. Edit it with a text editor. It needs to be 10 characters. Make sure the editor you use doesn't add a return to the end of the file.

Rubikcube does that still work? Thought they'd stopped that as you can knock out anyone's inverter by just changing your serial to theirs?

hoggy Yes it does. People on the varied "dongle f/w fiasco" threads have bought new dongles and changed the file rather than wait until next year for GE to do anything about bricked dongles....

Rubikcube thanks - I’m
Going to give this a go. Would I also need to change the SSID of the new dongle to reflect the original serial number, or not? I’m assuming not? Thanks for your help!

SKEXIS shouldn’t think so. The SSID is your local dongle broadcast and you can change this to anything you like

hoggy you can knock out anyone's inverter

Don't give me ideas 🙂

I think the portal has a table of which dongle is associated with which inverter. When data is uploaded it checks that both dongle serial number and inverter serial number match before recording the information. So to corrupt someone's portal data you would need to change both serial numbers.

Rubikcube that part must be new, It didn't used to check, as I took my own one out as a test/prove a point a few years back.
