I'm looking for an EV charger that will work with Intelligent Octopus and a Hyundai Kona 64K which I've on order. The product info on Intelligent Octopus doesnt mention the Givenergy EV charger nor the Kona as compatible. Can anyone shed any light on whether this is a work in progress and will happen or should I look for an alternative charger.
As the rest of my solar/battery system, on order and waiting patiently!, is Givenergy it would be nice to stick with one supplier.
Intelligent Octopus

I have heard of people on Intelligent without the supported car or charger. They get the 6 hours cheap rate but not the smart side, as in Octopus managing the charge. Even if you get a supported charger your Kona will not work anyway. My guess is Octopus are allowing people to join it with the intent of supporting more kit later on?

Yes I think you are right as they dont seem to be asking for proof of EV ownership, or at least not so far.
My setup is based on 12xJinko 410w panels split across two 3.6 hybrids each with a 9.5k battery (due to be installed around September after a long wait). The split being needed to allow me to fully charge the batteries within the 4 hour window . Now that the Gen2 hybrid supports 3.6kw charge/discharge from the batteries and the Intelligent Octopus gives a 6 hour window I could add more battery but the economics dont work yet but if batteries come down in price it could work.
My thinking is that during the cheap window I'll fill the batteries and do some charging of the car to say 80% max. Come daylight any excess PV power would flow into the car to take it up to 100% or whatever! My average daily mileage is <60miles all local stuff so I dont need the car fully charged and I'm using it as a backup power store.
Should I stick with a Zappy or is a different charger better, e.g. the Give Energy one?

BarryForde I'm in a similar position having just had a re-tile and some in-roof solar fitted along with a GE inverter and battery. A replacement for the dumb EV charger was always part of the plan and one that can take advantage of excess solar. Naturally, (until a few weeks ago) the default option would be the Zappi but given the announcement of the GE charger, looking at the specs and given that I expect it to integrate with the GE kit much better than one from another manufacturer, I'm holding off until this gets released. Hopefully this is soon. When I spoke to GE the other week, Q3 general release was mentioned. I can work with that.
From what I have heard, the Zappi is a great product, but less faff is what I'm looking for and kit from the same vendor should meet that requirement.

Is there anyone here already on the Intelligent Octopus tariff and taking advantage of the fixed 6 hour period, plus the "extra" slots you apparently get to charge their GivEnergy batteries? If so, how do you take advantage of the extra slots to boost up the home battery/ies & also use it in Home Assistant to switch on other devices ?
We have an Ohme charger for our EV's. Apparently, there is a beta trial to enable the Ohme charger to work with the Intelligent Octopus tariff, so that it does not use the car's APi's to program the charging.

Woodlands Not sure you will be able to use those extra slots of GivEnergy battery charging. From what I could gather those slots are if it see's your ev attached to your compatible charger. I am planning to switch next month, the prices went up a week or so ago too.... Just over 40p per kwh peak rate.
If I am wrong and the extra slots can be used for more then EV charging, please let me know! Every little helps.

You can probably do it easier with Home assistant but I have everything in Powershell because...well I'm not sure really, I just found it easier.
There's 2 routes -
1: via Octopus using their GraphQL API - (your looking for Planned Dispatches)
Then taking this information (which returns all the half hour slots your going to get) and adjusting your charge windows on your inverter to match via the GE API.
This sounds an excellent way until you realise that your having to a) time the calls to the API after 5PM as thats when the slots get announced. b) remember what you have your timers set to normally when you don't have the car plugged in so you can auto set them back again. c) add all sorts of checks into the code such that the time changes actually go through (the GE API has been known to drop calls) which would leave it stuck in no mans land. d) if you unplug early then you need to pick this up and reset everything so it's not charging at high cost while you pop to the shops...
The list of headaches continues...
2) Infer from the charger. This is by far the easier route and the one I opted for in the end as it put's all the scheduling onus on Octopus. i.e.
is the charger actually charging the car right now, if Yes then it must be an intelligent slot so set battery discharge to 0% and set the Givenergy AC charge window to 00:00 - 23:59 (which force charges the battery while also stopping it discharging into the car.)
Is the charger no longer charging? Intelligent slot must have ended, set GE Battery back to 100% and change AC charge timer back to normal.
Finally - "Is it >23:30" then set charge back to default anyway, restart script at 05:30....
So many less steps HOWEVER it's not perfect. If you want to charge during the day from solar, using the above logic falls down in that it thinks your in an intelligent charge window. So you need to add in a way of disabling the script.
A while back I did some examples of using similar on here although they are now poor examples as the Givenergy API & the Octopus API have changed a fair bit and broken everything. Given it's summer I've not needed to update anything as my system just doesn't need charging but i will revisit once the sun stops shining.
You may wish to petition Ohme for access to their API. It's possible to use it for this (as I have) but they are not forthcoming in releasing it officially.
THALL I'm waiting on an install of solar and two 9.5kwh batteries in around 6 weeks time. I have an EV albeit my mileage is quite low - I plan to use Intelligent Octopus to charge the car but also use the 6 hours to top the batteries. I asked to switch on email about 10 days ago before leaving for holiday to lock in the 35p day rate but they refered me back to the online sign up. I missed the lower rate but will still sign up as soon as I'm back from hols. The key is to lock in the 7.5p rate before they jack that up. I'm willing to pay a bit more for daytime usage before the solar goes in - that 7.5p rate for 6 hours is key to make the solar/batteries project look sensible.
sponev maybe check out EDF’s EV tariff. They were offering 4.5 cheap rate.
Tim Cheers, will do. I need the extended off-peak period to get both 9.5 batteries charged in winter so that's an important factor.

I will be joining Intelligent towards the end of next month. My current Go tariff runs out in October so making use of the cheaper rate for as long as possible. But the Intelligent tariff is amazing value right now even with the 40pkwh peak rate.

Yes, I am. A couple of guys on the Octopus forum helped me with britkatt's Giv_TCP and their Python script and HA configuration to get this going. It works really well.
