My portal shows no PV data from 10:30 07Dec24 following an outage caused by Storm Darragh.
All other data - grid, load, battery - seems to be displaying OK.

I reported this to GE on 17Dec24 but have had no response - hence post to this forum.
I have a Giv-AC3.0 AC coupled inverter with a 9.5kWh battery.

The outage was for a few hours and when the power returned it was low voltage for a while before returning to normal voltage.

I have done all the obvious checks:

  • isolators/RCBOs/MCBs etc all on/OK
  • PV system is operating OK: inverter switches on/off daily; inverter indicates power when generating; main PV generation meter operating OK
  • EM115 meter in DB is displaying OK, and tallies with the PV inverter display; generation current displayed also tallies with a clamp meter measurement on the PV circuit
  • have reset/reconnected WiFi connection to the inverter dongle - dongle shows continuous light
  • have done a hard reset (turned off inverter & battery for 10 secs)

This appears to be a problem with the inverter communicating with the EM115 PV generation meter.

Any ideas/advice?

pickle_x have you checked the physical connection of the EM115 in the bottom of the inverter that it hasn’t come loose? Make sure you plug it in the right socket though.

Any messages in the notifications part of the portal?

@geoffreycoan we have 2 EM115 meters and the modbus wired connections are in parallel, ie, just one twisted pair to the inverter.

The inverter is communicating with ID1 (CT clamp to incoming main). So it is not a problem with wired connections. It seems that there is a problem with modbus comms between the inverter and ID2 meter (PV generation), or a problem internally within the inverter processing the PV generation data.

Notifications:
07Dec24: grid voltage fault (storm outage)

Notifications: I notice that there are other 'Electricity Meter Com Fail' notifications:
2 in Aug23
3 in Nov23
3 in Dec23
4 in Jan24
GAP
1 in 17Dec24

  • all clear quickly, usually within a few minutes

I don't have any more info - don't know if these are relevant?

This now fixed - so thought I'd feedback in case this is useful for anyone else ...

GE have a large backlog of customer queries due to some internal changes, and apologised for the delay.

First check: that the dongle only has one file, an MSN file. Any additional files should be deleted. It did only have one MSN file, so that wasn't the problem.

Second check: GE discovered that the EM115 ID2 meter was not enabled at the inverter. It was receiving MODBUS data, but it wasn't doing anything with it. They enabled the meters and this sorted out the problem.

Good news. Thanks for publishing the conclusion so others know the resolution
