Hi. We have just had a GIvEnergy Inverter and Batteries installed. On the app is says one can connect an EV charger.

We have a PodPoint charger for our vehicle.
Can I connect that to the app if so how - as the app asks for an EVSE and when we try to connect to the home network is says Invalid Network, Please make sure your device is connected to the EV Charger.

The App asks for a network starting with EVSE - the only network that shows up is our home network nothing starting EVSE.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks Sara

At the moment the app can only connect to the GivEnergy EVSE.

GE charger only.
I have a pod point and will be swapping it out for a GE as it will have load management based on excess export.
The pod point is fine for a dumb charger and the scheduler is rudimentary and doesn't allow to override without cancelling every days schedule. I emailed them 12 months ago about it and never got a response.

Thank you Zakalwe and Makse for your replies.

My car app allows me to schedule charging for the pod point though, albeit rather limiting as can only do it for a start stop time which then applies to every day unless you turn the schedule off.

Kind regards

SKent I have the same for my car but it's the dynamic charging from excess solar that will be a big benefit with the GE over the Pod Point. Hopefully there will be more integration available as time goes by with GE.

Ah yes, the dynamic charging and excess solar . Thanks.
As you say hopefully more integration as the market grows

makse you'll need to save a lot of excess export for a direct replacement of a working PodPoint to pay for itself!

stevelewis I get but the PodPoint just doesn't do it for me anymore.
I am also able to buy the GE charge as trade prices so the pay back is less.

I have the same set up. GE will not recognise the Podpoint as others have confirmed BUT with my battery on solar only charge and dynamic discharge, it is usually fully charged at the end of the day when my car is set to charge on Octopus Go off peak (00:30-04:30). which then automatically uses the battery to charge the car over the grid. It helps that my EV is a Prius Plug-In with an 8.8kW/30mile range battery which doesn’t often get drained on a daily basis. I’ve set the Prius at an 8Amp/2kWh charge rate which fits nicely into the 4hr slot!
Appreciate that your car probably has a larger battery.

I have an EO MIni Pro EV charger and am about to get their solar coil option fitted, which should modulate the charging to the solar output. My BMW i3 is set to max charge rate of 3.9kW, and I have a GivEnergy 3.6kW Hybrid inverter and 8.2kWh battery.
It would be great if the EO charger could integrate on the GivEnergy control / App.

Davidstutchfield We've got a Zappi charger which plays nicely with the PV system as long as it's set to ECO+ with 100% Minimum Green Level (using an additional CT on the DNO tails). This works great with our EV and one of our family whose Hyundai Kona has a Type 2 connector.

However, we've also got family with a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV which has a granny charger. To wrap some control around this, I'm planning on using a Sonoff DUALR3 to switch the power on to the external socket when it gets the nod from my home automation which monitors grid import/export. Although the Sonoff can carry a 20A load, I will use it to operate a Contactor which can carry a full 32A load. The socket is only rated at 13A but supplied by a 6mm2 SWA cable which could support up to 45A (hence the contactor). Although this solution will not control the current drawn by your EV, it could be used (as I plan) to switch the supply on and off, depending on the energy being exported. BTW, I'm getting a competent contractor to do this install.
