My battery (SD2144G071 ) notifies me every so often that I need to update my firmware. That's fine except that it is from the same version 3005 up to the same version 3017 repeatedly.

According to my notofications I have performed a successful firmware update from 3005-3017 4 months ago, and 3 months ago, and 2 months ago, and 1 month ago, 4 weeks ago and 15 minutes ago.
This doesn't appear to affect functionality.

Any suggestions?

Mark

MarkHoltom It may be that the firmware update worked on your inverter but for some reason its not marked as successful on the givenergy portal.

Or it could be that the update isn’t actually fully completing properly. Did you get a calibration discharge then full charge of the battery afterwards? You should have got notifications for this happening

Contact Givenergy support and ask them to take a look.

geoffreycoan Checking the link provided says vsn 3017 as expected. The update itself only takes about 10 minutes and there is no discharge/recharge. There was with the original update but not since.

KevinB it says 3017 as expected. Thanks for the link.

MarkHoltom it sounds like the update has completed on your inverter but the givenergy portal hasn’t realised that. Support should be able to reset whatever is wrong

I have this message in the inverter software section quite often. This is since I had one of my batteries disappear off the system for a few days which I was told was down to a glitch from the GE side of things. I just ignore it.

I very rarely look at this site period, just noticed this software update, I'm not inclined to download it yet because like with so many other products that are run on software, they start to play up afterwards.

I'll wait until it's 100% sorted, I'll check back here in due course.

Can anyone confirm that all the bugs/problems with the latest software update has been fixed now?

SteveandLinda I don’t think its ever going to be as black and white as “all bugs/problems have been fixed”.

BMS 3017 is the current released battery management system version. There’s plenty of discussion of what it does on other threads. For a lot of people it works absolutely fine the main thing that most people have comment on is that it introduces temperature related charge limiting, so when your battery cells are cold it reduces the charge rate. This is particularly noticeable on smaller batteries and newer inverters with higher charge rate.

There is a BMS 3018 which some people are testing and I believe a 3019 as well. 3018 fixes some problems some people have had with very low charge rates (not temperature related). BMS 3019 I believe makes some changes to the temperature related charging logic.

For inverter firmware there are numerous versions for different inverter types.

General advice is to be on the latest firmware as that contains the most bug fixes. But conversely if everything is working fine then why upgrade and potentially affect things.
If you do have a problem with your inverter or battery then it’s likely that GivEnergy support will want you to upgrade as the first step in trying to fix it.

I try to be on the latest software but not bleeding edge, let other people experience the teething problems and upgrade when it’s been proven ‘in the field’ for a while. But personal choice and there will never be a version with “all bugs/problems fixed”.

Yep this is the standard support approach and they are unlikely to deal with you until that baseline has been met.

Thanks, this is why I prefer older basic tech in general, anything that relies this heavily on software and is so difficult, if not impossible to fix all the bugs/run correctly is crazy in my opinion.
I don't currently have a problem no, hence why I'm holding back on the upgrade, which could cause me problems afterwards.
