Batery isolator tripping.

Hi all I'm having some problem wchich started about 3 weeks ago but now number of events are increasing.
Last year I had 8.2 batery installed to my PV system wchih are including eddi and zappi. Eddi is set to bust water heat on 3am for 1.5h every day taking power from battery and all that was working fine till 3 weeks age when my battery isolator was triped first time on 3:15. At the morning I reset isolator and all was working fine 3 days later the same situation was occurred so I done same thing. But from last week ghatvis happening every day same time. Yesterday was event when isolator tripped on 3pm when was discharge battery plus some grig load and PV to make house demand. Do you thing my isolator can be faulty or the problem is elsewhere.

Hi, Experienced a very similar issue and turned out to be one of the battery cables not in the isolator correctly. If you are competent I would do a visual check of the isolator and after turning everything off including the batteries, check the copper in the cable ( or the crimp if used ) is seated correctly into the isolator terminal so it can be tightened making good contact. The bottoms ones are particularly prone to this issue.
If not sure please call the installer to check it out.

I had this too after having an additional 5.2kwh batt add to the system.

The installer (WeAreElectrical.co.uk) come back and checked the Givenergy 100a dc breaker connections (which has been un-touched since installed by octopus) and they looked ok, one may have been too far in so it was reconnected. While they were here they swapped out the breaker too to rule that out also.

Need to get Givenergy to calibrate the batts again as it seemed this is what caused the trip so that will be the true test but we forced charged for 15 mins and then forced discharged for 15min and all was well so far.

Have to commend Joe from WeAreElectrical.co.uk for his install and more so for coming back to troubleshoot.

Jurgengb When you say isolator tripped, what and where.
Is it integral to the battery like the 9.5kWhr one
Is a separate one next to the battery
Is it something in the consumer unit
Is is MCB or RCD.
NOTE an isolator does not have a trip function

If you happen to have access to a thermal camera (e.g. Flir), then these can also be used to spot heat being generated by a bad connection (as described above). Just make sure you do this when lots of current is going into or out of the battery. This is a good method for anyone who is not comfortable with electricity.

Once a battery isolator has tripped several times, it might need to be replaced, because the contacts themselves get partially oxidised. So even if the cable connections are tightened up, the tripping problem can persist.

The giv energy 100 amp dc isolators part PEBS-L do can fail even when installed correctly.
Mine started tripping at week 49 after install. No bad connections no higher heat spots. they are only £25 though.
My installer has changed a few and the wholesaler currently has 2800 in stock. Not a quantity you would expect for a part that doesn't fail.
