We've just started exporting to the grid and have had some pennies from Octopus. I've totalled up the total export kWh from the app but this doesn't match the data Octopus is using. The app shows the export as generation or battery to grid. This shouldn't make a difference?
Thanks

JaneB the way the app represents and samples the inverter data can be misleading as it takes a 5 minute sample and assumes that generation and consumption is constant for the time period
If you look at the meter data in the portal you get daily totals that don’t have these issues
In my experience over a reasonable time period say a week or a month, the GivEnergy export totals match within a decimal or so of the octopus readings but the GivEnergy reading isn’t a calibrated meter like your smart meter so could be less accurate
This is all new to me so need to get my head round so much.
Probably wouldn’t have worried except we were credited with some pennies one month which Octopus reversed in the next bill.

JaneB you probably won’t get much export in the winter, only when your batteries are full and its a nice sunny day. But certainly worth getting your head around how it all works before the summer
What export tariff are you on, the fixed 15p export rate?

Yes, 15p rate. We aren't expecting much this time of year, plenty of time to get to grips with the system.
