I have an AC-3.0 with no EPS or special TT earthing.
In the Rubik Inverter Monitor app under Inverter Status I see "ISLAND ON". Is this to be expected and if so what does this status signify? (The inverter is in normal operation with mains AC connected). Thanks.
I expect it just means that EPS mode has been enabled in the inverter. If there’s nothing wired to the EPS output ports then you won’t get any house emergency backup, but all the GivEnergy inverters have EPS capabilities built in
You can turn EPS mode off in the GivEnergy Portal if you wish
Initially our installer had ours set to Island Mode Off as we had no EPS circuits connected.
When @TheDragon (GivEnergy) put the 191/193 f/w on my G1 inverter he set it to Island Mode On.
Logically (to me) if Island Mode is Off then the inverter won't fire the relays to disconnect from the grid on a grid power failure as its supposed to according to the regs.
However whether that is the way it works or not and what variations there are between inverter generations - I have no idea.
geoffreycoan When I checked, EPS was already off in the Portal. Tried EPS on and off and it makes no difference to ISLAND ON setting. 🤔
Vestas Ran a quick test and discovered the following ...
Inverter disconnected from mains and EPS off.
Inverter circle flashing green.
Inverter Grid Supply terminals dead.
Inverter Essential Supply terminals dead.
Inverter disconnected from mains and EPS on.
Inverter circle solid green.
Inverter Grid Supply terminals dead.
Inverter Essential Supply terminals live.
I have not been able to test the effect of ISLAND ON/OFF as I have not found a way of changing this setting (EPS on/off in portal remote control makes no difference). The plot thickens!

The app is simply reporting the content of register 115.
In GivTCP3 the definition is commented out as:
# 'island_check_continue': Def(C.uint16, None, HR(115)),
so this register is no longer available via GivTCP, although it was in earlier versions as island_check_continue.
What register 115 does or did is not documented. It may no longer be used. My guess is the original intention might have been to control the N-E bond relay.
Rubikcube If this is the N-PE bond relay (Portal: N-PE Relay Toggle), I suspect that GE do not want users to have visibility and more specifically, control of it, in the same way that users can't see or change the "Enable 0 Second EPS Countdown" and probably a load of other controls, as such things have significant implications for electrical safety and compliance with DNO G98/G99 approvals. We know the GivTCP developer has been working closely with GE, and it may be that they have asked him not to make it visible to users, hence commenting it out in V3. Who knows. Other app developers such as the BBC Basic app, will have their own views on what to display or allow control of.
I am informed that register 115 has some useful purpose on the Gateway for AIO owners.
Register 115 doesn't seem to have any effect on AC3 or Hybrid systems.
So for AIO owners, version 4.6 of my app has the ability to change it in the Advanced section.
