My WiFi failed last week, but have now got it working with a different router. I have tried using the Installer App a couple of times, and all says connected, but just can't get any communication with data. Not done any firmware updates or new login methods. (A case of if it's not broke don't fix it), Now it's not working any advice or links to advice would be appreciated. Many thanks Keith

Have you set your new router up with the same SSID and password as your old one. This is the easiest way to enable your inverter to connect without having to change anything

Also check your new router is providing a WIFI frequency and channel that the GE WIFI can access. My gen1 dongle is 2.4GHz wifi only and only channels 1 to 11.

Thinking about this, are you using MESH or dual band WIFI with matching SSID? My old dongle doesn't like this either. It will connect but no data gets transferred. I have to have a dedicated 2.4GHz only WIFI SSID just for the GE. 🙁

alan_johnston I have a TP Link (cheaper version of Deco) mesh with the same network SSID for both 2.4 and 5GHz. The inverter won’t connect initially, but I found turning the 5GHz off, the inverter connects to the 2.4, and then once connected I can turn the 5GHz back on and it works fine, even when the power is off the inverter reconnects OK.

I thought I had turned mesh connection off for my inverters, but looking now, I haven’t. Probably explains why they sometimes connect to the garage node and sometimes the lounge node.

I do need fast roaming turning off in the mesh config, but this all works fine and I didn’t need a dedicated network for the inverters or other IOT devices

geoffreycoan For some obscure reason, my GE dongle resets itself every now and then 🙁 So having a dedicated 2.4GHz only WIFI network right next to the inverter dongle means it will always reconnect when the dongle decides to reboot.

Thank you for all your replies. I had another go this morning using the Giv Installer App, this time with success. Also I logged into the router and it does have both 2.4GHz and 5GHz and seems to allocate one or the other to specific devices, perhaps before it tried the 5. I'm now struggling with Myenergi app, but that's another forum/issue a little more tricky so still fighting that. However, it's also been useful and I know what to do for future reference, although hindsight is a wonderfull thing as it would probably be better to change the router to the old credentials.

I found that just having different names for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands worked for me. When both SSIDs shared the same name dongle reconnection was flaky at best. Since renaming one of the bands I have had no issues. Never have to turn 5Ghz off to get the dongle to connect to 2.4GHz.

Woodstock That's a typical fix for an access point which tries to kick clients to 5GHz by default.

Basically when a client appears (someone coming into house with a mobile for example) then that client is nearly always going to connect to 2.4GHz first. You don't want this as the 2.4GHz band is hideously contended and has stuff like leaky microwaves and other devices (ZigBee) causing interference. Clients tend to be sticky as well - in terms of band and AP.

So if the client has a certain signal strength which would allow 5GHz operation then the access point kicks the client. Client should then reconnect on either 2.4GHz or 5GHz and gets left alone after that if its a single AP wireless LAN.

The GE dongle (HF-A21) won't try to reconnect if its kicked in this way. This would also impact WPA2/WPA3 systems meant to fallback to WPA2 - ie current routers from major ISPs. I believe there is firmware which forces the dongle to try to reconnect when kicked but I haven't looked at this as its not a problem for me.
