Can system be set to charge EV from battery if >50% rather than Grid

I have a Waev EV1S charger and Nissan leaf car plus 10 panels and 4.8 battery. When I set my car on the Nissan app to charge (during daytime - not a normal time I charge at this time of year but in the summer it will be), it draws from the grid. Can I configure the inverter to feed the charger if the battery has a certain amount of charge 50%+ ?

staceace you can’t set the inverter to “feed the charger” because the inverter has no knowledge per-se of the car charger.

There’s two possibilities as to how your EV charger and inverter/batteries have been wired up and specifically the CT clamps:

  1. If the EV charger CT clamp and grid connection is before the inverter clamp then the inverter can’t see the load from the EV charger at all. The advantage of this approach is that your car can charge and your inverter won’t inadvertently discharge the battery into the car. A lot of people prefer this approach

  2. If the EV charger grid connection is after the inverter CT clamps then the inverter will see the EV charger as being house load and will discharge the battery to meet that house load. It doesn’t differentiate between EV charging and house loading, it will discharge the battery regardless.
    You can set a limit to the battery to stop it discharging below a level but that would affect the home as well.

To do anything more sophisticated I think you are looking for something like home assistant to automate the inverter and EV charger more directly. But that’s a different level of complexity and setup.

To be honest though a 4.8 battery isn’t going to make much impact on charging your car. You’d be better keeping that for home load

There is an option (not that I've tried personally) that you can apparently use - get a second CT to fit to the EM115 meter.
Weirdly (because the "CT" doesn't appear to measure current but rather voltage) you need to wire it in series, but then you have one around your grid input as normal, the new one wraps around your EV charger feed but the arrow on the CT points the other way and then your sorted. EV power is subtracted from your total grid input & the inverter won't see your EV charger anymore.

This may just be a quirk or the EM115 type meters, I've not seen it work on GEM115 (but neither have I seen anyone try. And to be fair I have only seen 1 person try the above way on an EM115!)
