My question is for somone with zero knowledge , where do i start in getting things running.

Ive been onto Octopus - the previous owners supplier - who tell me any energy thats been sent to the grid to date, Ive given away for free since i wasnt on any import/expoert tariif.

Now I try to set up the traiff (Octopus Flux) but the inverters (2) and batteries (2) remain registered to the previous owner.

On hold to Giv Energy phone line for 45 mins and getting nowhere.

any helpful suggestions greatfully received.

Thanks

For export you will need to get the MCS certificate from the previous owner (or installer).
You should also ask for the DNO approval that you have got your own system
https://mcscertified.com/consumers-communities/certificate-queries/

When you have both of those and the MPAN you can apply for the tariff as it will ask you for MPAN, DNO and MCS.

What kit have you got. I find Eco7 import and fixed export best for me in the 6 winter montsh when not a lot of sun as I get 7 hours off peak battery charge and any excess sun just tops up the battery. In summer Flux is better for me (though Agile may get a look)

Have you got the previous owners login details to the givenergy portal and presumably you have a new router and SSSD that you will need to get the inverter (dont know what kit you have) to connect to

Henry3rd you highlight a national problem that can only get worse. In our home we have Apps for the alarm system, smart sockets, security cameras, Givenergy, Octopus, Daikin Heatpump etc.

Aside from the heat pump and solar panels and battery I would be tempted to 'reset' the home to 'dumb' and removed router etc.

You need to speak to Givenergy support to get the account changed over. This will presumably need some form of input from previous owner? (Not really sure how they prove ownership to stop anyone just ringing up)
There's lots of guides on resetting the dongle to get it talking to your router - worst case in the meantime is one of the 3rd party apps that can control the inverter locally - such as the BBCbasic app or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.rubikcube.invertermonitor

Should have been sorted by the seller or their solicitor

You have to provide proof that you own the property. Unfortunately the only way of doing that is via land registry documents and they won't update for 6-12 months after you bought the property.

Apparently not. Its between GE and the new owner to sort it out, nobody can do anything about transferring warranty etc until contracts are exchanged - at which point the buyer is legally responsible for the property and all fixture/fittings, hence they have to do it.

Catch 22. One might even suspect it was deliberately designed to be difficult.

Roy124 Reset everything to default and don't get involved after that is my advice.

I made the mistake of assisting the buyer of our old house with a Unifi WLAN and cameras after they moved in. I walked them through setting up a UI account/how to connect to the DVR etc and not much more than that.

Four years later he still expected me to help him when he got a new TalkTalk router. Didn't happen obviously.

Vestas they presumably sold the kit as fixtures and fittings so it should have been clear whose it was with a change of ownership/registration on move day same as gas, electricity or anything else

I am sure in the short term the previous owner could divulge to portal login details and old SSID and pword to get Clive up and running.
I am sure if he asks nicely they will also have the MCS/DNO paperwork around somewhere and could maybe divulge the previous energy shipper - might make new supply/tariff easier

SteveCook The MCS/DNO paperwork should have been handed over with all the other certificates associated with the property..

I wouldn't hand over login details, nor would I get involved in ANY way with helping the new owner. May seem harsh but I'd potentially be legally liable for any problems experienced. I'd take a video of the system working, then shut it down (videoing again). Any problems after that aren't mine.

SimonClarke Its not clear in England & Wales on the move day because the Land Registry isn't fit for purpose (run into the ground by Tories for 14 years). You have NO legal proof of ownership until they get around to altering their records. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

Maybe one day England will join the 21st century (or even the 20th) in property matters? I won't hold my breath.....

Edit - the problem here is GE and their warranty/account transfer policy.

I do sometimes wonder what would happen if I were run over by a bus, and my family suddenly had to cope with a UI network, a HA Docker instance and Predbat all doing seemingly unpredictable things. I guess they’d manage … somehow.

I ought to leave a note somewhere telling them to sign up to Intelligent Flux, and not to unplug anything, ever.

PianSom You ought to start giving some thought to it.

Its more a case of gaining access to email/device/domain accounts if necessary so your family don't spend the next 3 billion years waiting for probate (banks being the main issue).....

There's a few articles on the subject which are worth reading.
