Hi

I have a GivEnergy EV charger and all-in-one 13.5kWh battery, with a Fox Ess inverter and Jinko solar panels.

I’m having difficulty getting my EV to charge from solar - and wondering if it’s related to any settings? Attached screenshots.

As I type - the battery is full, EV plugged in, and panels generating 3kW. However the EV is not charging.

Screenshots of my settings attached - any help appreciated!

(Incidentally - I can’t seem to set the Home/Away to Home…it flips back to away by itself)

I don’t see anything in those configurations that looks wrong. Is there a minimum power charge level anywhere that might be the problem, ie, not getting enough PV power? I know some other EV chargers have a setting that they will only solar charge when there is more than a certain excess going to the grid.

Depending on what tariff you are on, it’s probably worth never charging from solar. If you are on Go or Intelligent Go then charge overnight on the cheap rate and export all your solar at 15p is the best financially.

You probably have the wrong network address for your inverter set in the app.

  • settings
  • local monitoring
  • delete any IP addresses saved
  • scan for your inverter
  • save the address found

You have to be on the same wifi network as your inverter is for home mode to work

Could the EV be in a deep sleep mode, so not accepting the offered charge?

There have been reports for example of VW EVs not liking repeated start/stop of charging that often occurs with solar and passing clouds.

Presumably the charger works ok from the grid with your EV?
Have you tried with no schedules enabled? Tried with Plug and Go enabled?

Thanks for the replies all.

Turned out it was an issue with the car! A day or so after posting my original message, the car stopped charging altogether, and would fail to engage/lock the charger port.

I tested the charger on my Dad’s EV and it worked fine. So off to VW for the car.

They ran a test sequence which showed a software issue, which has now been fixed.

Happy to report that the car is currently plugged in and charging off the solar panels!
