You can postpone the start of the new £195 road tax by re-licencing your EV at the £0 rate this month for 12 months.
just go the the DVLA website and enter your reg number and the 10 digit ref number on the V5 document.
Takes 2 minutes.
It doesn't matter when your current annual licence period ends.
Off topic - save road tax by re-licencing your EV this month

I've just done it and received the email to say covered for 12 months but it still shows my renewal date as 1/7/25 when you check a vehicle is taxed. Does this take some time to update?
up to 2 days
The correct link is https://vehicletax.service.gov.uk/

Coys68 Mine now says 1st March 2026 so took a couple of hours to show.
Just did mine and now says due 1 april 2026????????????
Sounds a bit off from what others usually 1 Mar h 2026
DVLA online site would not let me renew early and change the date from 1st April 2025. However, by going to the post office I was able to renew immediately and tax the EV for free with a renew date of 1st March.

I forwarded this to my daughter. She said she wasn't sure if it applied to her as her car is leased and " everything is included in the monthly fee ". She was going to check with the leasing company. My common sense tells me that it is almost certain that it does apply to her.
My friend's lease company did it for him.
Ultimately it saves money as the cost would be passed on in some form or other.
Wait until they do road tax by weight and/or size to recover more money

They already do to a great extent for goods vehicles.
