My system is just over a year old and I've noticed the battery has taken 3kw to full charge.

This has been the case all through the recent good weather so plenty of charge available.

I assume we would not get a full 5.2 kw from the battery as it runs down to 5% but I would expect more than 3kw.

Any ideas?

PJ Do you mean where on the enclosed image the battery power is bottoms out at 2700 ? I can see tha effect on mine. But, as others have pointed out it is down to the battery temperature being below i think 20deg. You can see my battery doesn't get up to that temperature. So, the chargeing is throttled back.

Can you clarify what kit you have, what inverter and battery?

I assume it is a Gen 1 5.2kW battery because the newer replacement is slightly smaller at 5.12kW

If it is a Gen 1 5.2 then its only 80% depth of discharge, so the best you will get is about 4.2kW in and out of the battery. If you are only getting 3 then it would be worth doing a recalibration as the inverter may have got confused about what the battery capacity is

PJ you should still get 4.2kW in and out of the battery even if outside, the discharge rate should be the same, it just charges slower.

geoffreycoan I've done a firmware update.
Not sure how to recalibrate though.

PJ The option is on the portal, remote control, about 3/4 of the way down the page

You can set the time for the recalibration, and once set you can’t amend it or cancel it. The recalibration will fully discharge then fully charge your battery and once started you can’t stop it, but what you can do is to alter the battery charge and discharge rates, e.g. to charge in a cheaper period.
If you can do, its worth you doing a slow-rate recalibration at say 40% of the normal inverter charge/discharge rates, this has improved battery capacity for some people. Also, especially if your battery is outside, its worth you doing the recalibration when the outside temperature is warmer as you get more into the battery when its warm.

I am thinking of insulating the battery as it would keep it warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
I can monitor the battery temperature on my phone.
