Now that Intelligent Go charges smartly at various different hours not just 11:30 - 5:30, it occurred to me I would want the car to charge from 100% grid at 7p as opposed to what it does now, ie charge from the battery as well. Anything it takes from the battery could have been exported at 15p per kWh.
is there an easy way to achieve this penny pinching goal?

Have you got a GivEnergy EV charger or another type and if so is it the charger or the EV that is integrated with Octopus?

No it's Ohme and it is the charger that's integrated. The car is a 2020 Kona so not compatible with Intelligetnt Go itself.
Ah, I don’t know anything about Ohme chargers as mine is a GivEnergy but what you are thinking about doing is a strategy that many adopt I believe. I achieve it in the main by setting my GE charger to charge from the grid between 23:30 and 05:30 and use the car settings to set the charge to stop at 80% (as recommended by most EV manufacturers) and sometimes 100% if a longer journey is coming up. It is the car, a VW, that is integrated with Octopus. During the same hours I set the GE inverter to charge the house battery to full. It is also set to Eco mode. Then during the day any excess solar is exported at the 15p rate through the Octopus Fixed Export tariff. The downside of this is that I don’t get any additional cheap charging slots outside of the core 7p hours but I’m not too concerned about this. During March my income from export is more than double my import charge, which has provided all the house needs and several car charges.

[unknown] I use a combination of hardware and software .. CT clamps are organised in such a way that GE does not see power consumed by chargepoint. And then a rpi keeps track of charging schedules through the API, and pauses battery discharge so that house runs from grid during cheap rate. I don't automate charging GE during bonus cheap slots, but could do.
