Newbie questions

I have had my installation for only a couple of weeks but I a very confused by the data (although I note there seems to be some issues at the moment). Just taking today - clearly a very sunny day - my generation and usage seems to virtually track each other, which doesn't look right, my battery percentage peaked at only 35% after a full day of sunshine and nothing was imported or exported from the grid. The implication is I am pretty much using exactly what I am generating which is just not the case. When I look on my Octopus mini I am using (at 6pm) -300W which presumably means I am exporting. I am not yet on the proper tariff as I am awaiting the paperwork. What am I missing?

If you go into the app, go to the gear in the top corner, select"eco ", is it enabled?

That will direct your generation to your use first, then the excess to the battery and the remaining to the grid.

Keithwright thanks Keith - it wasn't enabled until about two hours ago - so will see what it does tomorrow. I am a little confused though as if it's not being "used" in my house or going to the battery or going to the grid then where IS it going?. The graph implies it's "load power" even though I know that is not the case.

mbridgett this is what you'd see if the CT clamp is incorrectly fitted or configured. Consumption is inferred to be difference between generation and export, and if it measures zero export, it assumes everything is being consumed.

The mini should be telling the truth

If the system was only installed a couple of weeks ago and the CT clamp is incorrectly fitted I would talk to your installer

I had something similar when my install went in, as ChrisLav says the CT clamp is not configured correctly.

OK, so it turns out the CT clamp doesn't need to be tight (it was very loose on the cable but it was pointing the right way. Apparently they had to "activate the grid meter" remotely (I have no idea what this does or why it wasn't activated before) but the good news is my graph now looks as I would expect, battery goes to a full charge and exporting is reporting correctly as well. Very strange though I have had to point these things out.

I think you will find from reading numerous posts on here that a lot of installers may be good electricians, but that does not necessarily make them good at "assembling" a PV/Battery/Inverter system and configuring it correctly.
