Hi, I upgraded my inverter to latest firmware yesterday. It’s a gen 2 with a 9.5kWh battery.

Today the battery dropped its soc from 100% to 0% in 5 minutes mid-morning.

The battery is now saying it’s exporting about 12w even though it’s at 0%.

It’s been sunny today, panels generating 3-4kW so if it was empty it’d be charging, I think, but it isn’t.

I’ve contacted support but it could be 10 days, they say.

Wonder if anyone else has experienced this after updating the firmware or if there is a deeper issue?

Oh, and my inverter now rates my battery as 5.12 kWh - wtf?

Take a look at the various threads on battery firmware updates to 3020 - could well be your issue.

Thanks, at about 8.30 last night the soc went back to 100%, but it is just sitting there, doesn’t charge, doesn’t discharge. The capacity has returned to 9.5, very strange. Tried remote reboot of inverter, but no different.

The battery firmware version says 3068, so I’m guessing I have a beta of some sort?

I'm having the same issue with my AC3, turning the batteries off and on solves it for a short while

I have the dodgy EON firmware 4001 so maybe its not playing nice with that

I've contacted support but no idea when they'll reply.

I updated inverter and battery software on the 5th April. Ever since then the inverter does not return to zero output after charging or discharging. It runs at between 10 and 30 watts output. This slowly drains the batteries when they should be inactive.
I have restarted the inverter and also reset to factory settings but still it drains the batteries when it should be off.
I can only stop the slow discharge of the batteries by setting the pause battery flag.
It was very clearly caused by the upgrade of the inverter and battery software to:

Unfortunately this is a side effect of the fast response features in the new inverter firmware and is by design.

As I understand it the newer Gen 1 and Gen 2 firmware has had ‘fast response’ capability added (it’s always been there in the Gen 3’s). What this means is that the inverter is now much faster to respond to changes in load, to supply battery power when you turn on a kettle for instance and to stop discharging when the load reduces.

Before this fast response you could have a delay of up to 30 seconds before the battery would respond, and obviously in that time period you would be grid importing or exporting unnecessarily.

However, you don’t get nowt for nowt. The fast response capability has been achieved by keeping the battery energy bus powered on all the time, this means that the inverter can respond to changes more quickly, but the side effect of this is that there is a higher constant power drain. The way to reduce the power drain is to pause the battery as you have found, and obviously then you are not getting the fast response.

Has been covered before on other threads, but you just don’t get such explanation from givenergy.

If you don’t want the fast response features then givenergy can revert you back to the older inverter firmware.

Thank you for a good clear response. This makes sense now.
I am on the Octopus IOF tariff at the moment (when they are working properly) so not so important to me now but I can see useful under normal usage. I’ll need to think about whether to return to the older firmware.

I have had a reply from GivEnergy (on Easter Monday !) and they are looking into it

I would request support move you off 4001. that is an old firmware.
3020 works beutifully with the new smart calibration logic

So, with some contact with GivEnergy support, if I update to 3020 from 4001 it will put my batteries back to 80% DOD. They say there is nothing they can do with the batteries doing as below.
I have opened ANOTHER complaint with EON as this will mean losing 20% of my as-sold capacity again.
Advice if you are on 4001 - don't update your inverter
